Chapter 13
Matthew paled and poked his head out of Hailey’s embrace. “Mrs. Rainer, I-
“Don’t talk to me!” Nora snapped.
As Hailey comforted Matthew, the butler showed Nara an article on the phone. When Nora read it, she lost her composure and dragged Matthew out of Halley’s arms to slap him hard again. “How dare you pull something like this, you asshole?
“You promised me you wouldn’t return to the country after taking my money and leaving. It hasn’t even been five years, yet you’ve returned and latched onto my daughter! You’re deliberately making things hard for us with all your disgusting tricks, aren’t you?”
Hailey picked up on Nora’s point and looked at Matthew in surprise. “Did you accept my mother’s money?”
“I didn’t, Hailey! I swear!” Matthew cried.
Nora didn’t want to waste her breath on him. She showed Hailey the phone and said, “Look at what he’s

Hailey looked at Matthew incredulously after reading the article. “How are you going to explain this, Matthew?”

Hailey shut her eyes, feeling pained and torn. “Why have you done this, Matthew?”
Though she’d decided to have a wedding with Terence, it was only because she wanted to make it up to him for neglecting him. Matthew was still the one she loved.
She could give him everything he wanted besides a wedding and a child; she never expected him to spread the word about the groom switch to force her to marry him.
Hailey couldn’t imagine what Rainer Group’s stock price currently looked like. She opened her eyes to look at Matthew, finding him unfamiliar for the first time ever.
He held her hand anxiously, his gaze panicked and uneasy. “I can explain, Hailey. I didn’t want to do this–l was just too in love with you…
