Chapter 11
The stone hit his back solidly and he stifled a grunt of pain but still held me
protectively.
After ensuring I wasn‘ t hurt, he turned to Louise and slapped her, his voice filled with fury. “Louise, are you insane?”
Louise stared up at him in shock, a blank look in her eyes. After a moment, her face softened and she reached for him. “Adam, you came to save me!”
“Get away from me!” he snapped, pushing her back with obvious disgust. “I’m warning you: if you ever hurt Claire. again, I won’t let it slide.”
I stayed behind him, flashing a smug, taunting smile at Louise. My mouth formed. the word trash, just loud enough for her to
see.
This was the humiliation she had put me through. It felt satisfying to give it back to

her.
Louise’s face twisted in rage. She lunged toward me, her fingers clawing at the air.
“You witch! I’ll kill you!”
Before she could get close, Adam kicked her in the chest, sending her crumpling to the ground, gasping in pain.
I squatted down in front of her, my smile calm and serene. “Louise, there are plenty of reporters outside. Need a hand getting up?”
“You don’t look well. You shouldn’t be lying around on the ground like this.”
She whimpered, curling in on herself, tears. streaming down her face as she sobbed.
I had always been sensitive, easily moved by other people’s pain, but at that moment, I felt nothing but satisfaction seeing her like this.
Adam turned to me, his tone gentle.
“Claire, I’ve already taught her a lesson

for you. Are you satisfied now?”
“If not, I can go another round,” he added, as though eager to make things right.
“No need,” I said coldly, standing up
and brushing myself off. “If you really feel sorry, Adam, just sign the divorce papers. That‘ s all I need.”
Hope drained from his face, replaced by an aching resignation. “Is there really no chance?”
away
I responded by turning without a
second glance.
That day, dozens of media outlets captured the disheveled Louise as she fled from the scene, their flashes capturing her humiliation. The only people still
defending her online gradually faded away, leaving her to deal with endless contract. terminations and lawsuits.
A week later, I returned to work. I had expected it to be challenging after such a

long break, but the transition was smoother than I’d anticipated.
Adam never contacted me again until ten days later, when my lawyer called to say he had agreed to sign the divorce papers.
We met at the courthouse. Adam looked weary, the confidence in his eyes replaced by a hollow resignation. His gaze lingered on me, as if he wanted to say something.
But I gave him no chance, turning and walking straight into the building.
As I was leaving, he finally spoke.
“Claire… I’m sorry.
!
“No need for that.” I looked at him with a cold smile. “Honestly, if you weren’t so untouchable, do you think I’d let you off so easily?”
He looked stunned as I turned and walked
away.
I didn’t follow the news afterward, not until a friend at a party mentioned that

Louise was in prison.
Surprised, I asked for details.
“After everything, Louise was desperate,” my friend explained. “She couldn’t afford the breach–of–contract fees and tried to beg Adam for help, even cried outside his door, but the family refused to let her in.”
