Chapter 1
Kendall’s POV
The wedding was in full swing when Marc Robbins‘ childhood sweetheart suddenly stormed in, tears streaming down her face. Clutching a knife, she screamed that she wanted to end her life.
To everyone’s surprise, Marc shrugged off my hand, ignoring my desperate attempts to stop him, and ran after her.
Outstrengthed, I stumbled back, crashed into the champagne tower, and got a cut in my arm.
That was the moment my dream wedding turned into a nightmare–a bride without a groom, humiliated for all to see.
It wasn’t until a week later—after he returned from his “trip” with her—that Marc casually suggested we reschedule the wedding.
But the tables turned when word got out

that I was marrying someone else as Marc finally snapped.
The wedding was already half
rough
when someone stormed into the banquet
hall with her dress dragged behind her.
It was Astrid Crawford.
She raised a small knife and screamed,
“Marc, if you marry her, I’ll end it all right here!”
The room fell silent and every pair of eyes locked on her.
This was supposed to be my wedding, but Astrid had shown up wearing a crystal crown and a gown that outshone mine, looking every bit like the bride I wasn’t.
At that time, Marc Robbins, my fiancé, already had his attention fixed on her. Barely glancing at me, he muttered,
“Don’t worry.”
Then, with a tight voice, he shouted at Astrid, “Astrid, stop it!”

Filled with tears, Astrid shot me a look of pure hatred. Then, pressing the knife to her neck, she shouted, “Marc, do you really want to marry her?”
I saw hesitation quickly flash across his face as he glanced at me. Nervously, he tried to calm her down. “Astrid, don’t get emotional. Relax and put the knife down, okay?”
But Astrid didn’t want to. Biting her lip hard, she stubbornly shot back, “No! Unless you leave her and come with me.”
I expected Marc to stand his ground, to shut down her tantrum in front of all these people.
But he didn’t.
He hesitated. Then, in the same breath, he agreed. “Okay, I’ll go with you. Just put the knife down.”
Hearing his reply, Astrid’s lips curled into a triumphant smile as she glanced my way.

Below the stage, I saw my parents‘ faces turn dark with anger. With everything happening right now, I felt my heart had hit rock bottom.
I returned my gaze to Marc and stared at him in disbelief. Having mixed feelings, I felt like my knees became jelly so I clung to his arm, pleading, “Marc, this is our wedding day. All our family and friends are watching-”
But before I could finish my words, he glared at me with annoyance and bellowed, “A life is at stake, Kendall! Can’t you be more understanding for once?”
And just like that, he forcefully shook off my hand and rushed toward Astrid without hesitation.
Being out–strengthed and caught off guard, I flung backward and crashed into the champagne tower behind me. The glass toppled and shattered into pieces on the floor, causing the cold champagne to splash over me. Shards also sliced into my

For three years, I had been the one by Marc’s side when Astrid abandoned him and left for another country. That was why I thought my patience and love had finally brought us here—to our wedding day.
