Chapter 9
Kendall’s POV
“Forget about them, Dudley. I’ll help you pick out your suit later,” I said with a small smile, brushing off the tension from earlier.
Time flew by, and before I knew it, the day of our wedding had arrived.
The Stokes family spared no expense for the occasion. The venue was breathtaking -grand decorations, exquisite
arrangements, and a guest list filled with influential names. Compared to my
previous wedding with Marc, this celebration felt like it was on an entirely different level.
Still, Dudley couldn’t shake his nerves. He had taken extra precautions, worried Marc might try to crash the ceremony. He showed the security team Marc’s photo and gave strict orders to keep him out.

Watching him pace nervously across the room, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“You‘ re taking this so seriously. Is it really necessary to be this anxious?”
He stopped and turned to me, his eyes warm and sincere. “Of course it is. This is the most important day of my life.”
When the ceremony began, the officiant‘ s voice filled the hall, solemn and steady.
“Miss Kendall, in wealth or poverty, in sickness or health, do you vow to spend the rest of your life with this man?”
Holding the microphone, I looked into Dudley’s eyes. His gaze was filled with so much affection that I couldn’t help but smile. My voice was firm as I answered, “I do.”
The wedding went off without a hitch, a seamless celebration of our love.
It wasn’t until later that I heard about
some minor drama from others.

As Dudley had feared, Marc showed up uninvited. But thanks to Dudley’s
vigilance, the security team stopped him at
the entrance.
No matter how much Marc pleaded—or even tried to bribe them–the guards. didn’t budge.
In the end, Marc stood outside the venue, his red–rimmed eyes fixed on the doors. I heard he stayed there for the entire ceremony, listening to everything from afar.
“When you said ‘I do,‘ Marc collapsed,” my best friend told me later, her voice dripping with satisfaction. “He just broke down right there, crying like a baby. Honestly, it felt like karma. Did he think about how you felt when he left you for Astrid?”
Her words were meant to fuel my anger or, at least, stir some sense of vindication, but all I felt was… nothing.

Marc no longer mattered. His regret, his heartbreak they weren’t my burdens to bear anymore.
Being with Dudley was nothing like my time with Marc. Dudley was open and honest, willingly sharing his passwords and keeping me informed of his plans. He even surprised me with thoughtful gestures and never left me guessing about where I
stood in his life.
These were things I had never experienced before, and they made me realize just how much I had been missing.
Not long after, I heard Marc’s company
went under.
It was because Astrid leaked confidential
information to a rival due to a twisted act
of revenge.
This time, Marc didn’t hold back. Furious, he reported Astrid to the police, and she ended up in prison.
The once seemingly loving couple had

turned into bitter enemies.
It was a dramatic downfall, but it didn’t affect me in the slightest. Their toxicity was no longer my concern.
The wounds Marc left behind had long since healed. Now, I was ready to embrace the life and happiness I truly deserved, leaving the past exactly where it belonged- behind me.
