I got my ass beat for being out so late.

My foster dad whipped me with a willow
switch soaked in saltwater, right across my

He got tired, started breathing hard.
Then, he got all shifty.
“The Johnsons next door are bringing home a
new wife tomorrow, you need to help them
out.”
The viewers, who were getting bored,
immediately perked up.
[Here comes the next trial. This one’s

I touched my collar, there was something hard

It was probably another hidden camera.
I didn’t rip it off.
I let it stay.
The next day, a fancy car showed up.
A Mercedes that cost a million bucks just
sitting on the dirt road.
A girl in a white dress jumped out.
Her cute little shoes landed in the mud,
splashing her dress.
She wrinkled her nose.
Then she smiled, all sweetness and light, like
the perfect girl next door.

her into thinking she’s filming some “real rural
life” show. She doesn’t know about the

My sister looked up and smiled at the
camera.
Then, she looked right at me.
My foster dad awkwardly rubbed his hands
together, and hurried over to fawn over her.
My foster mom shoved me. “Get over there and help.”
I brought my sister a glass of water in the
cool mud house.
She took it, her hands all smooth and pale.
Then she said, “Can you help me?”
[Here we go!]
She looked distressed and said, “I’m actually
a college student. I was kidnapped. They want
to marry me off to some hillbilly.”
My sister’s eyes flashed with malice.
“You’re about my age, can you marry him
instead of me?”

The “hillbilly” she was talking about was the
same wife–beater I’d been forced to marry in my last life.
He didn’t have two pennies to rub together.
He was in debt from gambling.
He couldn’t afford a wife.
I looked at my sister, all made up and acting
scared.
Then, I looked at all the commenters
watching.
“Sure.”
I didn’t even look up.
