“You little brat!” Aunt shrieked, clutching her
barely–there bump. “I don’t feel well! This is
all their fault! I need a hospital!”
The officers exchanged a look and took us all
to the station. Since this involved Mom, they
called her too.

The moment Mom arrived, Uncle started
yelling. “How could you do this?! I’m your
brother! Mom entrusted me to you! You
promised me this house! Now I’m at the
police station! And it’s all because of your
daughter!” He gestured at me with his chin.

Mom stared at the floor, chest heaving. Then,
she lunged at me, hand raised to slap me.
Dad yanked me back just in time.
“Lisa, are you crazy?! Why are you hitting our
daughter?!” Dad roared.
Mom glared at me with pure hatred, just like
last time. “She’s just like you! All she cares
about is money! She called the police on her
own uncle! Family is more important than a
house! I keep telling you, money is
meaningless!”
Uncle and Aunt smirked triumphantly. Dad
shook his head, his face etched with
disappointment. “I don’t know how much
longer you can keep defending your family.”
He turned to the officers. “I’m pressing
charges. They can either restore the house to
<
its original condition or face the
consequences.”
The officers stopped Mom and Uncle’s
protests. “Breaking and entering, property
damage… you’re facing serious charges.”
Uncle clenched his jaw. “Fine, I’ll pay!” He
spat at me, “Your mom’s right. You’re a greedy monster!”
I’d initially planned to ask for $2000 in
damages. Now, I held up five fingers. “Five
thousand.”
Ignoring their curses, I pulled Dad away.
“Chloe, is five thousand too much for a
couple of walls?” he asked.
