Chapter 68
As I applied my skincare, I finally spoke.
“What’s wrong with this? We don’t bother each other.“”
Pregnancy had taken a toll on my skin. I often had breakouts, and my neck had darkened.”
I used to weigh around 90 pounds, but now I was 120. My belly was stretched tight, forming deep stretch marks.”
Eric said it didn’t matter, but his eyes betrayed his disgust.”
I had wanted a set of maternity skincare products, only 200 dollars, but Eric scolded me, “Don’t use random products during pregnancy.”
Yet when Jane complained about wrinkles, he splurged on a set of Helena Rubinstein products for her.”
The cost of that one set could last me for years.
I flipped over my nearly empty lotion bottle, trying to get the last drops. It would probably last another day or two.”
Still, he wouldn’t give up. “Is this about me and Jane? Haven’t I explained it to you already? There’s nothing between us. She’s just the housekeeper.“”
Does he think I’m a fool? He’s still lying.”
Since when does a housekeeper live better than the lady of the house?}
Since when does the lady of the house serve the housekeeper, cooking and cleaning?”
“It doesn’t matter to me. As long as you two are happy.“}
There was no point in arguing anymore. My heart was dead. What was left to fight for?!
My love had drifted away in the river long ago.
I once tried hard to hold on to something, but in the end I found that the harder I tried to hold onto it, the faster it slipped away.[
Now that I’ve decided to let go, it clings to me, refusing to leave.”
Humans are so pathetic.
Eric’s eyes held a hint of guilt as he watched me hold onto that nearly empty bottle.”
“You’ve always wanted to see the ocean, right? I’ve got some time off soon. I’ll take you on a trip to relax.”
It wasn’t a suggestion. It was a statement.”
He seemed certain I wouldn’t refuse.”
I looked down at my round belly. The baby had been so well–behaved lately, barely moving.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s inconvenient right now.“”
I had always dreamed of going on a honeymoon by the sea with the man I loved.
Sunshine, sandy beaches, and a beautiful romance–it was all so perfect.”
But when we first got married, Eric said we couldn’t afford it. He promised to make it up to me later.
And now, years later, he suddenly wanted to take me to the ocean.”
“Gloria, don’t be ungrateful.”
After a few times of pretending to be humble, he couldn’t hold it in anymore.”
Grabbing my arm roughly, he warned, “This is your one chance. Don’t regret it if you don’t go.”
With that, he stormed off to Jane’s room, slamming the door behind him.”
In the past, I would have jumped for joy at the idea of going on a trip with him.”
But now, with my big belly, I knew going with them would be like being a live–in maid. Only a fool would go.
I started packing my things. I couldn’t stay in this house any longer.”
By the time I woke up the next morning, they were already packed and ready to leave.
Jane excitedly tried on a few bikinis, asking Eric for his opinion.”
Today was my prenatal check–up. I grabbed my previous reports and drank some milk before heading out. “I’ll take you to the hospital. Our flight is this afternoon.“W
Who knew what had gotten into Eric.!!
I was about to decline, but he was already grabbing the car keys and heading to the door.
Out of all the prenatal appointments I had, he had never gone with me. He always said work was too busy.”
Instead, he’d have Jane go with me, though she was often too busy with her mahjong games.!

I got used to going alone.
He was used to my compliance, so my constant refusals must have thrown him off.
As we walked to the garage, there was a long silence before he finally asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to go? You’ve always wanted to see the sea.”
I looked up, and there was a trace of pleading in his eyes.”
“No, you two have fun.”
Love can make you give everything, but it can also leave you completely defeated.”
So, I stopped loving him.”
After a long pause, he said nothing more.
If it had been Jane, he would’ve been sweet–talking her, but for me, this was as kind as he could be.
Eric opened the passenger door, but I slid into the backseat.
I remembered when he first bought the car, the first thing he told me was that Jane got carsick and had to sit in the front.”
Everyone knows the front seat is for the wife.”
Back then, I thought Eric was just being a good son.”
But now, looking at the sign on the front seat that said “Reserved for Jane,” I realized how foolish I’d been./
He dropped me off at the hospital entrance and drove off, saying Jane had asked him to buy sunscreen at the nearby mall.
How considerate!
