My hunch was spot on. Just as I hopped into Walter’s car, Olivia’s plane was on the verge of taking off. 

“Delayed?” She fiddled with her hair, her frustration palpable. Underneath her perfect makeup, her anxiety was barely concealed. 

“It’s fine, just a minor delay, nothing to worry about,” she muttered to herself, trying to stay calm. 

But the unease in my heart slowly spread, becoming harder to ignore. 

In a surge of panic, she dialed Walter. 

Her hands trembled uncontrollably as she urged, “Answer it, come on, pick up!” 

The wave of panic made her voice quake. She couldn’t pinpoint the source of her fear, but it overwhelmed her.

The sound of the call disconnecting sent her heart racing even more. 

Surrounded by a crowd, she couldn’t shake the feeling that danger was closing in. 

Without thinking, she started to run. 

“Stop!” 

A forceful shout rang out, but Olivia, in her panic, didn’t look back and kept running. 

No matter how fast she ran, escape was futile. 

When the police finally detained her, she glared at me with pure hatred. “You orchestrated this, didn’t you? You hate me for wrecking your perfect life, so now you want to destroy mine!” 

I simply nodded. “Yeah, so what?” 

Olivia stared at me intensely, laughter suddenly bursting forth. 

“Lily Anderson, no matter what you think,

you can’t change that your family fell apart because of me. In this life, your father is also my kids‘ father!” 

She cackled wildly, nearly doubling over. “And you’ll have to recognize me as your stepmom, Lily. If that’s not enough to haunt you, I don’t know what is!” 

As the police led her away, her laughter and the noise around faded into the background. 

Walter watched me quietly, his expression unreadable. Then, taking his two children, he turned back towards their humble 

beginnings, leaving the chaos behind.
