I was prepared to file for divorce from Daniel, but the next day, he delivered the signed divorce agreement.
“The other terms haven’t changed, but I made a few adjustments to the property division. You take seventy percent, and I keep thirty since Evelyn will be living with me.” Daniel looked at me for a moment, then took a mango cake from the back seat of the car. “This is the cake Evelyn made. Do you want to try it?”
I flipped through the divorce agreement and took pictures of each page to send to my lawyer for review. Hearing Daniel’s words, I glanced at him and said, “I’m allergic to mangoes. We lived together for over ten years. You didn’t even know that?”
“Sorry… I’m so sorry,” Daniel apologized helplessly, throwing the cake into the trash as if it had burned his hands.
After my lawyer confirmed that the agreement was correct, I looked up and said, “You should have some time now, right? Let’s get the divorce certificate.”
