Chapter 3
Last time, I went through this plagiarism
fiasco.
But before I could investigate, Chloe rushed
back all fake and concerned: “Sarah, if you
plagiarized, just admit your mistake, and don’t
let Mark’s family find out, they won’t be as
forgiving as our family.”
“Some people just don’t have talent, and they
refuse to change.‘

My mom, believing Chloe, locked me in the
house until my reputation was ruined and I
was blacklisted from the entire industry.
Chloe, on the other hand, used that one plan
to impress a CEO from a famous company,
move overseas, and live happily ever after.
So Chloe stole my plan last time.
I squeeze my fingers tight and bow to the
manager. “Sir, I’ll bring the evidence to prove
that I didn’t plagiarize.”
L
I go home and confront Chloe.
She leans in and whispers, mocking me, “So
what if I did? What proof do you have?”
“You don’t deserve to have a career or a
family.”
I’m so angry that I slap her hard across the
face. She covers her cheek, eyes full of
disbelief, then bursts into tears.
My mom, drawn in by the crying, sees the red
mark on her face and goes ballistic.
Chloe says with fake sadness: “Sis, I didn’t
steal your plan… I’ve already forgiven you for
plagiarizing me. Isn’t that enough?”
く
“I know you like Mark too, but you can’t frame
me like this.”
“Mom, please help me!”
My mom slaps me across the face. “Sarah
Miller! You’re going to be a rich man’s wife
soon. You’re going to admit that you copied
Chloe’s plan or you’re gonna regret it.”
“You’ve always been trouble, if you were half
as obedient as Chloe, I wouldn’t have to deal
with you.”
I turn my head, filled with disappointment.
Chloe could do no wrong in my mom’s eyes.
Whenever Chloe didn’t want something, my
mom gave it to me like she was doing me a
favor, then yelled at me for being greedy and
stealing from my sister.
I could only pick up the men she didn’t want.
I lift my head and look straight into my mom’s
eyes, determined. “I won’t! Why should I
always give in to her? I didn’t plagiarize!”
My mom clutches her chest, groaning. “You
ungrateful child! If you don’t admit it, get out
of my house!”
Chloe wheedles with my mom: “I’ll be
generous and forgive my sister, Mom, don’t
get sick.”
My mom is happy and looks at me with
increasing annoyance.
Г
“You’re not going to work anymore, I’m going
to find you a husband now.”
“Marry you off early so you stop making me
mad all day.”
My mom locks me in my room, and I can’t
knock down the door.
She also takes away all my electronics to
prevent me from contacting anyone.
I am left with a large bag of cookies, a food
that Chloe doesn’t like.
Chloe stands outside the door, bragging that
her wedding to Mark is next week and she’s
having the perfect family.
She also mentions me: “Mom also found you
a husband. I heard his family is well–off.”
“Your future husband is an old man in his
sixties, I envy you, you can be a grandma
once you get married.”
I’m not scared by her words, whether or not I
get married isn’t something my mom can
decide.
At midnight, my mom and Chloe are fast
asleep.
I tie the sheets and clothes together and
escape from the window.
As soon as I land, I don’t stop, I run straight
to the company.
L
When I sit down at my desk, I finally relax.
Before I questioned Chloe, I had uploaded all
the researched information and the electronic
version of the plan to the cloud and deleted
the records to prevent accidents.
This is my only chance to prove myself!
