Seeing this, Rachel quickly took her son from Samuel, looking apologetic:
“Quincy, please don’t be angry. Samuel was just being kind. This child has grown up without a father, and today is his 5th birthday. Samuel was just helping fulfill a dream of having a father for a day.”
I stared at her with a half–smile:
“If that’s the case, now that Lily and I are here, shouldn’t you return Samuel to us? After all, we’re the real family of three.”
Rachel was taken aback, but her son in her arms wasn’t having it:
“Dad, you promised to spend today with me and mom!”
The 5–year–old glared at me fiercely.
I raised an eyebrow. He’s already calling him dad?
Before I could say anything else, Samuel stood in front of the mother and son, in a protective stance.
His tone was impatient:
“Quincy, you’re a parent too. Don’t you have any empathy? Rachel and I grew up together. I’m just spending one day with them, just one day! Do you have to make a big deal out of it?”
I laughed bitterly. Was Rachel’s misfortune my fault?
Just then, other parents started arriving with their children for Family Day. Someone came over to say hello.
“Good morning, Leo’s mom and dad! Every Family Day, your family of three always comes together. Not like my husband, always saying he’s
busy with work and not caring about our child’s growth.”
Rachel awkwardly returned the greeting, while a flash of panic crossed Samuel’s eyes.
I couldn’t help but confront him: “Samuel, is this what you meant by just one day?!”
Samuel became angry and embarrassed, grabbing my arm:
“Quincy, there are a lot of people here. Don’t make a scene!”
Then he looked down at our daughter and lowered his voice:
“It won’t be good for Lily if this gets blown up, you know what I mean.”
Our daughter suddenly heard her name and looked around confused.
But she still didn’t understand what was going on. She just clung tightly to my leg, her little hand in mine now sweaty.
I felt her unease and crouched down to stroke her little ponytail, saying softly:
“Don’t be afraid of anything when mommy’s here.”
I watched as Samuel walked away with Rachel and Leo.
Soon, they were surrounded by a crowd.
Some people smiled ingratiatingly as they greeted Samuel.
They praised him for his career success, becoming the CEO of a multi–billion dollar company at just over 30 years old.
Samuel was arrogant and smua. his tail practically in the air.
Rachel stared at Samuel with shining eyes, looking proud to be associated with him.
Leo, still in Samuel’s arms, suddenly turned back to glance at me and made a taunting face.
I couldn’t help but laugh coldly inside. Looks like Samuel has gotten cocky.
Although I reduced my time at the company due to pregnancy and childbirth, 75% of Flying Group’s shares were in my hands. I was the real leader.
He just latched onto my coattails, and out of consideration for our marriage, I gave him the title of manager.
I opened my phone and messaged HR:
“John, remove Samuel from the manager position. Announce it internally next Monday!”
Then I messaged the legal department:
“Luke, draft a divorce agreement between Samuel and me.”
Oh Samuel, Samuel. If you want to live off me, you should see if I allow it first.
