Yvonne and her brother were both arrested. Her brother was sentenced to prison, but Yvonne only received criticism and education, spending just over ten days in detention before being released.
This was because she had only “pranked” by locking the door, and there was no evidence to prove she was the mastermind behind the arson.
Ethan and Brandon both became extremely depressed. Ethan had caused the death of his own son, while Brandon had ruined his brother’s son’s life.
They were filled with regret.
Over the next three months, they seemed like completely different people. The two men, who had always prioritized work, both took extended leaves
of absence.
They kept vigil outside Rachel’s home, constantly repenting and trying to make amends for their mistakes.
With Rachel’s companionship, I gradually emerged from the shadows and prepared to start a new life.
One day, as I was returning from grocery shopping, I saw Ethan.
Upon seeing me, Ethan awkwardly rushed forward to take the bags from my hands, saying, “Let me help you.”
I stood there, calmly looking directly at him.
Ethan’s face was full of nervousness, his eyes brimming with longing. “Honey…” he began.
“Mr. Shaw, I’m not your wife anymore. If you keep calling me that, I’ll report you for harassment”

Ethan’s eyes reddened. “I really made a mistake. Can you give me one more chance?”
I know I neglected you before. When you needed me the most, I was never by your side! I promise it will never happen again!”
“Molly, I truly love you. There was never anything between Yvonne and me!*
That night when she asked me to bring her a towel, it was because of her cat…”
I raised my hand to interrupt him. “Ethan, you know very well why I don’t like Yvonne, and you’re also aware that your relationship with her could easily lead to misunderstandings. Yet, knowing all this, you still acted the way you did.”
“In my view, your enjoyment of ambiguous relationships with another woman is no different from cheating.”
“It’s your repeated indulgence of Yvonne that made her harbor ill intentions towards me. You are the true culprit.”
“Stop pestering me. I only find you disgusting now.”
Seeing the brokenness in his eyes, I felt no sympathy. A scumbag didn’t deserve pity.
Six months later, I heard from a female firefighter that Ethan’s kidney was stabbed during a mission.
The doctor’s diagnosis was that he would never be able to have children.
Ironically, the person he rescued on that mission turned out to be Yvonne.
One of Yvonne’s obsessed pursuers, upon discovering she was being ambiguous with several men simultaneously, became enraged and wanted to die together with her.
During the rescue, Yvonne called out to Ethan ecstatically. The assailant assumed Ethan was one of Yvonne’s men and angrily stabbed him.
When Yvonne heard that Ethan’s kidney was ruined, she left without even a word of thanks.
When I shared this incident with my best friend Rachel, she also shared something with me.
“Molly, Brandon’s hand is ruined,” Rachel sighed, without a hint of sympathy, I knew she had moved on too.
“What happened?” I was a bit curious.
Rachel spoke nonchalantly, “Yvonne contracted a venereal disease. She went to the hospital begging Brandon to save her, but what could he do? Once you get that kind of disease, it’s for life.”
“Yvonne had a breakdown. So, out of revenge, she grabbed a scalpel and stabbed it through Brandon’s hand.”
“The pure, untouchable goddess the brothers so carefully guarded ended up becoming their dooms.”
I took a deep breath, feeling utterly calm.
This was their choice. Fortunately, we’ve escaped from this bitter destiny.”
Rachel and I exchanged smiles.
“I told you, we would be okay!”
