Chapter5
That evening, Irvin used “working late” as an excuse and didn’t come home.
I sat on the couch, eating fruit.
When he used to say this, I thought he was hardworking, making sacrifices for the family.
Now, I just want to slap my past self.
Trusting him had been the worst mistake.
Marta, on the other hand, was still pacing nervously in front of me. “Since he added me on Twitter, he hasn’t reached out again! What should I do?”
I replied, unfazed, “He’s dealing with that.

mistress now. He’s too distracted, but after tonight, he’ll start reaching out to you.”
Marta paused. “Alright.”
“I rented a villa for you in the outskirts of the city. Arrange to meet him there, and from then on, follow our plan.”
I remained cold, watching her.
Irvin still didn’t completely trust Marta yet.
We needed to find a chance to make him believe she was a wealthy woman.
But before that, I needed to raise three million in cash to stash in the villa’s
basement.
Just as I was pondering this, I received a call from Joseph.

“Bertha, you didn’t pay for the rental damages yet?”
I looked up, remembering.
The car I rented had been damaged in the crash, and I had gone to the rental office to sign the compensation papers.
But Joseph was truly a schemer. At the end of the month, I’d owe fifty thousand, including interest.
“Yes,” I replied, keeping it simple.
There was a pause on the other end, then he spoke, “I tore up the compensation bill. You don’t need to pay.”
I frowned, puzzled. “What’s the catch?”

He hesitated before replying, “It’s just… I don’t need your payment. Consider it a favor.”
I frowned deeper, “No, this is a separate matter. If you tore it up, we’ll sign a new one. I’ll pay what I owe.”
Before he could respond, I hung up.
