On the day of the trial, Marta and I sat in the audience, silently watching everything unfold.
The evidence was undeniable, and Irvin had no way out.
At the last moment, he glanced at me and Marta, as though he understood something.
He smirked, a self–deprecating laugh escaping his lips.
Irvin, you will now spend your life in prison!
After the trial, Marta, Quinn, and I gathered at the door.

He walked over, looking stern, and grabbed Quinn by the ear. “I told you to be careful who you hang out with. Look at you! If it weren’t for your ex–wife being so smart…”
Before Joseph could finish, he saw me standing beside them.
His grip loosened as he looked at me with clearer recognition.
Quinn rubbed her ear and complained, “Uncle, what are you doing? There are so many people around!”
I smiled and looked at him. “Joseph, long time no see. I was just about to look for you.”

Joseph scratched his neck, looking a bit awkward. “I can’t believe someone like that married you!”
I tilted my head. “Isn’t that already in the past?”
Quinn’s eyes widened in surprise. “You two know each other?”

Before she finished, Joseph covered her mouth.
He gritted his teeth and whispered, “Give me a little face.”

“How have you been?” I asked Marta.
She patted her chest and shook the designer watch on her wrist. “That money you

I gave her a thumbs up. “Impressive!”
“Bertha, why aren’t you coming inside? It’s almost time!” Quinn, wearing one of my designs, ran over.
When she saw Marta, her mouth dropped open in surprise. “Marta, you’re here too!”

He was holding a bouquet of white statice.
I smiled, watching their playful bickering.
Quinn pulled Marta into the venue, leaving only Joseph and me at the door.

I took the flowers. “Thank you, you remembered I like statice.”
