Chapter 3
After the previous incident, Floyd Wade was reluctant to come to our house again. My husband had to change his plan, asking me to meet Floyd Wade at the park while he followed us discreetly.
I wore light makeup and nothing under my dress. As I walked along the riverbank with Floyd Wade, every gust of wind made me incredibly anxious.
“Sis, is there something you want to talk to me about?”
I absentmindedly replied, “Not really, I just wanted to ask why you haven’t thought about finding a wife at your age.”
Floyd Wade, embarrassed, said, “Actually,

there’s someone I’ve always had in my heart. I spent years in the military, and by the time I got out, she was married. I didn’t dare disturb her after that.”
“You’re quite devoted, aren’t you?”
I looked up and smiled at him, not paying attention to the road. A child on a bike came barreling towards me, and I didn’t notice until Floyd Wade pulled me out of harm’s way.
The child’s mother hurried over to apologize, and Floyd Wade waved it off, lecturing the kid seriously before tousling his hair and letting him go.
I stared at him in surprise, thinking how he embodied the qualities of a veteran- responsible and reassuring.
Last year, my husband and I were

accidentally bumped into on the street. My husband’s frail body couldn’t stop the person, and he ended up tumbling, hurting himself worse than me, and stayed in the hospital for days.
Out of the corner of my eye, I glimpsed my husband’s fleeting figure, and my heart skipped a beat as I quickly reined in my wandering thoughts, smoothing down my skirt. I softly thanked Floyd Wade.
“Floyd, you were really manly back there, very handsome.”
Floyd Wade’s tanned skin flushed, and for such a big guy, he was somehow shyer than me. Seeing him like that lightened my mood.
We then talked for a long time about our first loves. I recounted my history with my husband, and he shared how wonderful his

crush was.
“To be honest, Sis, you look a lot like her today–just as beautiful and pure.”
He said this without a hint of flattery or jest, his serious tone sent my heart fluttering, taking me back to when my husband and I first fell in love years ago.
Just then, a caterpillar fell on me, and I jumped up, shrieking.
“Floyd, a bug! Get it off me!”
Floyd Wade extended his large hand, brushing from my shoulder to my back, and finally across my smooth, firm backside, knocking the bug off. He froze, not daring to move his arm.
Blushing, I wanted to say more, but my

phone buzzed with a message from my husband, telling me to return. I had to bid Floyd Wade goodbye.
