Just then, my phone rang.
It was Mark. I turned it off.
He sent a message. “How long are you going
to act like this?”
“Have your driver go pick you up.
Come over and apologize.”
<
“It’s our anniversary tomorrow. I have a gift
for you. Remember to pick it up.”
“I don’t care about that! Get over here.”
“See you.”
I blocked his number.
He couldn’t believe it.
She was so nice, why did she block him?
Ashley was sad.
“What’s going on?”
Mark said, “She blocked me!”
Ashley pretended to care. “Isn’t she nice?
<
He said, “Are you serious?
She’s pregnant.”
Ashley thought to herself: If you can handle
this, I’ll be impressed.
“What should we do?”
“I’m not going to go back. She needs to cool
down.”
He would just wait.
He told himself that she’d come back.
“I’m going to feed you.”
He tried to get back to being normal.
Ashley wondered, “Isn’t she as nice as you
thought? Is she nice to you?”
Mark stopped and thought about it.
He remembered the kind moments.
Something was wrong.
Maybe he was losing her.
“I need to go back.”
“You need to rest.”
Ashley grabbed his clothes.
“Just leave me?”
“I need to figure this out.”
Ashley glared. “He’s mine.”
Mark got home and felt empty.
Everything was still here, except Lily.
“Honey, I’m back!”
No response.
She must be in the baby’s room.
But it was empty.
He took out his phone and called her.
He called the maid.
She said everything was gone.
Mark went numb.
“When did this happen?”
It all made sense.
She’d heard about me and Ashley.
He blocked it out.
“Why did she clean out the baby’s room?”
“I don’t know. She said she was redoing it.”
Mark held onto the door.
Then asked, “Where is she?”
<
She’d messed with everything.
He remembered what she’d said.
“Now what?”
Her best friend answered.
“You wouldn’t even get her goodbye gift.”
“Gift? What is it?”
“She’s getting a divorce. See you.”
“Are you serious?”
“She did it for Ashley. I curse you both!”
Mark went insane.
<
Gift!
She left a gift.
Mark ran to the room.
He found the papers.
It was her hospital record. She’d lost the baby
a month ago.
He squeezed the paper.
Why would she hide this?
He grabbed another paper.
It was a divorce certificate with their names.
“What is this?”
