Chapter 5 Regret
Jonathan looked at the will I wrote on the screen. I left everything I had to my only
son.
His hand holding the phone was shaking slightly.
He took the initiative to call the lawyer again.
I saw him hesitant before he spoke, and he seemed a little nervous.
When the lawyer answered the phone, he immediately said, “Hello, I want to ask, did my wife know that she would die long ago? Why was she able to make a will so long in
advance?
“Why didn’t I know about this?”
I knew he wanted to ask if I had left
any
lawsuit documents.
He also knew that he was guilty towards
- me.

Then, the lawyer said in confusion.
“Don’t you know that she has been ill for a long time? When she was diagnosed with cancer, she was in the late stage. The doctor said she only had three months left. When she contacted me, she had only made a will, but she looked very ill.”
After hearing this, Jonathan’s grip suddenly loosened.
The phone fell to the ground.
He stood there like a statue.
It was a long time before he bent down and picked up the phone on the ground.
On the way home, he was more silent than ever before.
After hanging up all the calls, he went home alone to pack up my belongings.
The home that originally housed a family of three was now very quiet.
Jonathan walked slowly to the closet,

opened it, and was about to take out the clothes, but his hand froze in mid–air.
He looked a little stunned.
Only now did he realize how few clothes I had.
There was nothing to pack.
He walked through every corner of the house unwillingly, but all he saw were his and Jimmy’s belongings.
There was no trace of me living here.
He looked depressed, and was hesitant to say something, but finally didn’t say anything.
He took a few deep breaths and then turned and walked towards the refrigerator.
Jonathan rarely drank water, and he always opened the refrigerator to get drinks.
But this time, when he opened the refrigerator door and saw the fresh

vegetables I had stuffed inside before I died, his eyes suddenly turned red.
He slammed the refrigerator door shut after a glance.
His body slid down weakly along the refrigerator door, and he curled up on the ground.
I knew he remembered something.
No matter how busy I was at work, I never missed a meal for him and Jimmy.
But on Jimmy’s birthday, the dining table was empty when they came back.
He thought I was angry.
But he didn’t realize that something happened to me.
After a long time, the sky became dark.
He stood up with the help of the sofa and shook his numb legs.
The dim light shone on his face, revealing faint traces of dried tears.

Jonathan took out the wine I had prepared for him from the refrigerator and stumbled into the sofa.
He opened the bottle and drank it all in one gulp.
He had a complex expression.
He felt regret, annoyance, anger, unwillingness…
I saw his lips moving, but I couldn’t hear what he said.
After drinking several bottles of wine, he fell into a deep sleep on the sofa.
He didn’t awake until the next afternoon.
He was woken up by a phone call from Kristina.
His phone was set to silent mode, which blocked ordinary friends and colleagues, but did not block Kristina.
On the phone, Kristina said awkwardly that she had something urgent to do and asked

him to pick Jimmy up.
Jonathan gradually regained
consciousness, and it took him a full minute to realize what she was saying.
He answered hurriedly.
But today, before Jimmy’s usual time of getting off school came, his teacher called Jonathan.
“Your son got into a fight with other kids in the kindergarten! Please come and deal with it as soon as possible!”
