Mrs. Carter’s face went pale, and she looked at Eric, teeth clenched. “Son, we don’t need to drag this out. Give her the portion she paid so she can leave quietly. We’ll all be better off”
Eric looked at her, completely baffled. “Mom, what are you talking about? She did this to herself. She doesn’t deserve anything. Even if we go to court, the judge would side with us.”
Mr. Carter chimed in, “Exactly. I’d rather burn this house down than give her a penny.”
“Fine,” I said coolly. “I’ll file for divorce and charge Eric with assault against Noah. He was injured when you pushed him and is ready to testify. We’ll see what the court has to say, and I’ll be sure to invite the whole family to watch.”

Mrs. Carter panicked, her voice breaking. “No! Eric, sign it! Don’t let her ruin your career. This could ruin our family’s reputation!”
Eric’s glare deepened, but he stayed silent. Seeing him waver, Mrs. Carter quickly grabbed a pen and thrust it into his hand. “Sign it, Eric! You don’t want to end up in jail. Just pay her and get her out of our lives.”
Her desperation made me want to laugh. She wasn’t afraid for Eric–she was terrified of me going public with her secret. She knew that if we went to court, a second DNA test for Eric and Noah would expose everything.
Eric, worried about jail time, signed the agreement, throwing a cold glance my way. I pocketed the papers and said, “I’ll just grab the rest of my things.”
After packing my belongings in the bathroom, I walked out and headed straight to Memorial Public Hospital with what I’d collected.
A day later, I got the call. “Ms. Carter, the DNA test results you requested are ready. There’s no biological relationship between the two samples.”
I couldn’t help the smirk on my face. Just as I’d expected.
I carefully stored the report, imagining the look on Mr. Carter’s face when he found out. It was going to be perfect.
Once the divorce was finalized, I requested my share of the money. Eric spat at me, “You heartless woman. You make me look like a fool, accuse me of abuse, and now demand my money. I should have seen your true colors long ago.”
Expressionless, I replied, “Who’s heartless here? You’ll find out soon enough. Now transfer my money and save the words.”
He threw the bank card at me. “Don’t let me see you again.”
I took it, smiling, “Oh, you’ll see me again. And I have one last parting gift for you.”
His suspicious gaze followed me as I left, my heels clicking confidently on the floor. With my own savings and my rightful share from the house, I knew I’d be fine. Those who hurt me and Noah? They’d get their dues.
