Chapter 2
The divorce procedures were completed quickly. Julia was unexpectedly calm when she walked out of the City Hall with the two divorce papers. Ending her marriage like this felt somewhat unreal.
As Julia stood on the roadside trying to hail a cab, she saw Joseph’s car slowly pull up in front of her.
Joseph’s expression was somewhat cold as he said, “Amelie is in critical condition again. Come with me to the hospital.”
‘Amelie… Julia murmured inwardly. ‘It’s that woman again!‘
Julia clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and opened the back door to get in without any expression. On the way to the hospital, Joseph drove very fast, indicating his anxiety.
The car stopped at the entrance to the hospital. Julia got out and slammed the door shut, and as she looked up to meet Joseph’s gaze, she uttered the five words she had held back for a long time. “This is the last time.”
Joseph furrowed his brow, watching Julia’s petite figure as she walked away. He was somewhat surprised by the intimidating appearance of the once gentle and obedient woman.
After having her blood drawn, Julia held her arm to her body, her face pale. She was anemic and prone to fainting at the sight of blood, but she had never told anyone of this. Back then, Joseph told her that she and Amelie were both Rh–negative and that if she agreed to donate blood whenever Amelie was critically ill, he would marry her.
The condition was too tempting for Julia, and she agreed without hesitation. The reason was simple, and that was because she loved him.
The patient’s name was written on the door of Room 402, “Amelie Hamilton.”
Joseph was nowhere to be found and was not in the hospital room. And instead of lying in bed, Amelie was sitting up, smiling as she watched TV. When she saw Julia open the door, her smile faded, and she turned off the TV with the remote.
‘Putting on an act, huh?‘ Julia sneered inwardly. ‘But it looks like you’re not so good at pretending. You look so energetic, so could you possibly be critically ill?‘ Julia’s lips were pressed into a straight line, her eyes filled with raging anger and coldness. “Why are you here?” Amelie didn’t want to see Julia. “Where’s Joseph?” she questioned in an unfriendly tone.
“I don’t know where Joseph is,” Julia said, stepping closer with a cold gaze and looking down at Amelie with a hint of intimidation. “I’ll tell you this, Amelie Hamilton, this is the last time I’ll donate blood to you. From now on, I won’t do it anymore. Whether you’re dead or alive, it’s none of my concern.”
Amelie blinked. “What do you mean? Didn’t you promise you’d be my blood bank forever after Joseph married you? How can you go back on your word? Joseph won’t be happy if he finds out.”
Julia had been hurt by Amelie’s words countless times before, but what used to make Julia sad and pained now only seemed laughable. Over the past year, she had lived like a clown.
Julia coldly smiled. “The only thing I regret is marrying Joseph Mullins.”
“You…” Amelie felt something was off about Julia today, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Just then, Amelie saw someone appear at her room door and instantly changed her tone. “Joseph!”
Joseph, dressed in a suit, stood at the door. He had just parked the car in the underground garage and heard Julia’s words as he approached the hospital room. It felt like a slap in the face, loud and painful.
Julia knew Joseph had arrived, but she didn’t even turn around. Her tone was as casual as if she were discussing the weather. “We’re divorced.”
Amelie was stunned. She murmured, “Really?” In an instant, tears welled up in her eyes. “Is it because of me? Julia, please don’t do this. It’s not Joseph’s fault. He’s just…”

Chapter 2
Joseph furrowed his brow as he looked at Amelie. He found out that she wasn’t ill this time and had deliberately thrown a tantrum. He suddenly felt a twinge of guilt toward Julia.
Julia turned and glanced at Joseph indifferently. “I don’t owe you anything from now on. Farewell,” she said with a faint smile. With that, she walked past him and left the hospital room.
Joseph instinctively turned to look at her. Her back looked fragile, with her shoulder blades sticking out prominently. ‘How skinny. Was she mistreated by my family?‘ he wondered. For some reason, an inexplicable sense of agitation rose in his heart.
