Chapter 20
With Byron behind her, Julia met Joseph’s cold gaze and haughtily declared, “Joseph Mullins, do I need to remind you that we are already divorced? You are a stranger to me now. Since you are a stranger, what right do you have to lecture me? And what right do you have to stop me from seeking true happiness?”
‘True happiness?‘ Joseph thought. His eyes and brows betrayed a deep and impenetrable swirl of emotions as he understood the unmistakable implication in Julia’s words. Lowering his gaze to the keys and handkerchief on the edge of the pool, he reached out and grasped them tightly in his hand.
The two of them walked outside the private room. Byron stopped Julia and asked in a concerned tone, “Julia, your complexion looks very bad. Are you really okay?”
Shaking her head, Julia said softly, “Maybe it’s just been a lot of stress lately. It’s okay.”
Byron couldn’t help but worry. “Let the hospital give you a few days off. Have a good rest before coming back to work. Nothing is more important than your health.”
Not hearing any sense of entitlement in his words, Julia declined, “No, I can’t. I have another surgery the day after tomorrow, and the patient is in critical condition. I can’t afford to delay any longer.”
With that, Julia pushed open the door and entered the private room.
After dinner, Byron sent Julia to the car and gave detailed instructions to the driver of the Lopez family, then stood on the roadside and watched the car leave.
In the deep blue Bugatti not far away, Joel glanced at the rearview mirror and saw his boss’s smile disappearing, which startled him, and he quickly averted his gaze.
“Return to the Mullins family’s mansion,” Joseph ordered.
Not daring to ask any further, Joel started the car.
Julia took a day off to rest after an important surgery a few days later.
She was concerned about Mrs. Rylie’s health and couldn’t resist Mrs. Rylie’s warm invitation. After lunch, she brought a pot of freshly stewed soup to the Mullins family’s mansion.
“Julia, you still remember that I like this!” Mrs. Rylie greeted Julia with a warm and welcoming smile, her eyes showing an increasing fondness for Julia.
In her
eyes,
whether Julia divorced her son or not, Julia was still considered a part of the Mullins family.
“Rylie, I put some medicinal herb in this soup. But don’t worry. I carefully adjusted the flavor, and you won’t be able to taste it at all. You should drink a little more. It’s good for your health,” Julia said softly.
At her insistence, Rylie drank most of it, and the two of them chatted for half the afternoon.
Seeing Rylie looking tired, Julia remembered that she had arrived without informing Rylie in advance. Knowing that Rylie usually took a nap in the afternoon, she couldn’t help but get up to take her leave.
“Julia, why are you leaving so early?” Rylie was obviously unwilling to let her go.
The housekeeper immediately understood and stepped forward, saying, “Ma’am, Mrs. Rylie’s nap time is not long, and she has been feeling discomfort in her heart during this period. It would be better for you to stay here and rest for a while. After you have rested well, you can check on her.”
Rylie immediately interjected, “Julia, are you willing to refuse me?”
In Julia’s heat, Rylie treated her no differently than Rylie’s own daughter. Julia hesitated for a moment and nodded.

Chapter 20
Recently, she had been feeling weary and fatigued from time to time, and her worries and doubts had been growing incessantly in her mind.
To not let Rylie notice anything, she followed the housekeeper upstairs.
However, Julia felt some resistance standing outside the room at the corner of the second floor. “How about… I will just go to the guest room and rest for a while?”
Her staying in this room the last time was due to Rylie’s insistence.
Julia did not want to have any further involvement with Joseph.
The housekeeper smiled and pushed open the door, persuading, “Mrs. Mullins, this is your room after all. And Mr. Mullins… doesn’t come back often. You don’t need to worry.”
Upon hearing this, Julia relaxed slightly and walked into the room.
After she married Joseph, she also lived with him a few times.
The layout of this room had never changed, with a black and white color scheme. Even the carpet was white wool, very exquisite.
In the bedroom, a new set of sheets had been changed on the bed, with the same dark color scheme.
Julia did not think much. She thanked the housekeeper. Only after the housekeeper left did she lie on the bed to rest. Perhaps the familiar scent of the bedding caused her to fall asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow.
“Ma’am, please rest assured. Mrs. Julia should have already retired to rest. I’ll assist you back to your room.” The housekeeper smiled and gently escorted Rylie back to her room.
“Did you see how concerned Julia looked just now? She still regards me as a close elder in her heart.” Rylie sighed and thought to herself that even if Julia couldn’t become her daughter–in–law, she would be willing to accept her as a goddaughter.
But in this way, there was no longer any possibility for her son and Julia. “That Amelie Hamilton was all sneaky, trying to worm her way into the Mullins family. No way is she even one percent as good as Julia,” she said.
The housekeeper chimed in. “Mrs. Julia is so pure–hearted. She’s no match for Miss Hamilton.”
She said with a smile, “I hope Mr. Mullins can understand Mrs. Julia’s good intentions.”
Although Julia stayed, no one could say for sure in matters of love.
Julia didn’t wake up when it was dusk.
The sound of the car stopping in the courtyard was heard, and the housekeeper hurried to greet the comer.
A handsome and tall man stepped out of the car and walked into the villa’s lobby with a serious expression. “Didn’t you say Mom suddenly felt unwell and asked me to return early? How is she now?”
With that, Joseph was about to go upstairs.
The housekeeper paused for a moment, then smiled and caught up, saying, “Mrs. Rylie was indeed feeling unwell this afternoon, but she is much better now.”
Joseph halted his steps, and the worried look on his handsome face gradually faded away. He let out a clear “hmm” in
response..
“Mr. Mullins, why don’t you go back to your room and rest for a while? I will call for you when dinner is ready,” the housekeeper suggested.

‘For some reason, in recent days, Mr. Mullins has been returning to the old house frequently, which also happened to create opportunities for Mrs. Rylie to facilitate the reconciliation between Mr. Mullins and Mrs. Julia, the housekeeper thought.
Joseph’s deep black eyes showed a hint of fatigue as he stepped on the stairs. He loosened his tie and finally opened the door to his room. His suit was also taken off.
He walked into the bedroom, and the familiar yet unfamiliar scent of gardenia suddenly attacked his nostrils.
