Chapter 21
The man came to a stop, his deep eyes squinted, and his gaze suddenly fell onto the dark bed.
The room was dimly lit, and the woman sleeping in the bed did not awaken when the man entered the bedroom.
Without turning on the light, Joseph took a while to see clearly that Julia was fast asleep.
He unconsciously dispelled the exhaustion and coolness he brought back from the company.
Julia’s sleeping face was calm, her long hair spread out on the pillow, and her delicate features exuded an indescribable tenderness. She seemed to have been sleeping for a long time, as the two blushes on her cheeks were unusually prominent.
Further down, her neckline was loosened, revealing delicate collarbones and the graceful curve of her neck, captivating Joseph’s gaze.
Joseph’s heart skipped a beat, and his Adam’s apple bobbed uncontrollably.
He softened his movements as he approached Julia.
He put aside the coat and sat on the edge of the bed, lowering his gaze to look at Julia.
He extended his slender fingertips and slid them down from her smooth forehead.
His dark pupils became deeper.
He knew he had never objected to the woman that Rylie had taken the initiative to arrange for him.
If Julia had always been docile and obedient, perhaps…
In her sleep, Julia seemed to gain awareness of the fingers sliding across her cheek, and the familiar scent of sandalwood eased the furrowed brow on her face.
The next moment, she leaned against the warm fingertip and rubbed it.
Joseph’s pupils contracted slightly.
His gaze grew stronger and more intense, and Julia couldn’t help but open her eyes only to meet a pair of eyes that carried a sense of oppression and deep meaning in the dark.
“How… how did you come back?” She hurriedly sat up, without noticing Joseph’s slow retracting fingers, and quickly got out of bed from the other side. “I’m sorry. I was sleeping too deeply.”
Julia looked like she was a polite guest.
At this sight, the usual warmth on Joseph’s face faded, and his fingertips, now hanging by his side, were lightly circling as if they were still carrying the delicate touch from before. “Um.”
After hearing the man respond without emotion, Julia became certain that he was angry. She apologized again without hesitation and walked outside.
When she came downstairs, Rylie was drinking coffee.
Upon seeing her, Rylie couldn’t help but smile and say, “Julia, are you up? The food in the kitchen is ready, I specifically asked them to make a few dishes that you love.
Upon realizing she had overslept and woken up in the evening, Julia’s face turned red with embarrassment as she awkwardly declined. “Rylie, I won’t have dinner with you tonight. I have to go now.”
“Ah! Julia… Rylie hastily got up, only to see Julia’s hurried departure.

Chapter 21
As soon as she turned around, Rylie saw Joseph walking down the stairs.
“It’s all your fault. Today, Julia cooked a special soup for me. She would have stayed for dinner if it weren’t for you,” Rylie was annoyed.
Joseph said nothing and cast a glance outside.
Ever since then, Julia would always make subtle inquiries about whether Joseph was present when she would visit the Mullins family’s mansion to avoid encountering into him again.
But for some reason, every time she came to visit Rylie, Joseph, who was not at home, would often come back suddenly. Over time, Julia found herself able to chat with him and Rylie in a calm and friendly manner.
Noticing that Joseph had been frequenting the old mansion often recently and Julia often went to visit Rylie, Amelie couldn’t sit still.
Inside the spacious and luxurious hospital room, Amelie couldn’t help feeling a little smug as she watched the man who dropped everything to see her after a phone call from her.
“Joseph, I almost fainted just now, and I thought my illness had worsened.” Amelie’s voice was weak as she fell into Joseph’s
arms.
Joseph gently moved her away from his embrace. His handsome face was cold and showed clear signs of worry. “If you feel unwell next time, tell me earlier or call the doctor immediately.”
“But you know my situation, and it may require…” Amelie hadn’t even finished her sentence when she was interrupted by Joseph. “The hospital should have ample blood supplies, and the blood can be transferred from other hospitals if necessary. It should be sufficient.”
Upon hearing this, Amelie was slightly stunned. ‘Didn’t he assume Julia was my mobile blood bank before? Could Julia have been going to the Mullins family’s mansion to seduce Joseph?‘ she wondered.
Amelie twisted the white sheet between her fingers and said, “Joseph, I heard that Julia often goes to accompany Rylie. Does Rylie still like her very much and want her to continue to be the daughter–in–law of the Mullins family?”
After he heard these words, Joseph’s dark eyes flashed.
He thought about how Julia had been caring for Rylie during this period, being attentive and cooking nourishing meals for Rylie when she knew Rylie had no appetite. She would sometimes be busy cooking all afternoon.
Julia seemed to be getting thinner and also much quieter than before.
Even though there was no longer any relationship between them, she still took meticulous care of Rylie,
Joseph even saw her rushing from the kitchen to the bathroom once and heard the sound of vomiting inside, as if she was feeling unwell.
She did so much not to please anyone, nor did she have any ulterior motive, She just wanted to be good to Rylie,
As his thoughts churned, Joseph stated firmly. “No.”
The simple word carried an unmistakable impatience, with no further explanation, yet it still brought a sense of joy to Amelie’s heart. ‘It seems that he despises Julia, Amelie thought.
Linking her arm with Joseph’s, Amelie gently said, “Actually, I also want to be close to Rylie. She has some misunderstandings about me. I believe that as long as I explain myself clearly, she will like me. Joseph, don’t you agree?”
“Yep, Joseph replied nonchalantly.

Chapter 21
As if she had gotten his approval, Amelie showed up at the Mullins family’s mansion the next day.
She inquired intentionally and found that Rylie would be having afternoon tea with other noblewomen.
Outside the Mullins family’s mansion, Amelie stepped out of the car and met eyes with Julia, who had just arrived as well.
They walked in together.
Upon learning that Joseph was in the study, Julia’s eyes turned faint, and she headed into the kitchen to prepare today’s nourishing meal for Rylie.
This was meant to nourish the body and should not be stopped.
“All of you do something else first. Without my instruction, no one is allowed to come and help in the kitchen.” Although she had not married into the Mullins family, Amelie has begun to boss around the servants.
Julia felt indifferent that there wasn’t a servant to help her, and didn’t even give Amelie a glance throughout the entire time. However, there will always be some people who deliberately seek trouble and cannot be avoided.
Julia, I’m feeling a bit thirsty. Could you make me a cup of coffee?” said Amelie.
Is she treating me as a servant here?‘ Julia gave Amelie a cold glance and couldn’t be bothered to argue, so she just made Amelie a cup of coffee.
Making a cup of coffee was not troublesome, and besides, given the amount of blood that Amelie had taken from her, it was only right to take care of her for a while to avoid wasting her blood.
After taking a sip of the rich espresso, Amelie spoke again. “I am a bit hungry. Could you help me make some desserts?” Julia did as told.
She had to keep an eye on the medicinal cuisine on the stove while making the desserts, which slowed down her pace considerably.
30 minutes later, Amelie was becoming impatient.
When Julia placed the well–prepared desserts in front of her, Amelie suddenly pretended to knock them over accidentally. Julia, even if you don’t like me, you can’t humiliate me like this.” Amelia Hamilton glanced at the desserts on the ground and made a regretful expression. “It’s such a waste to throw these desserts away. Why don’t you pick it up and eat it yourself?”
The last sentence completely exposed her true nature,
