Chapter 23
In the evening. Joseph returned to the old mansion again.
Amelie was not willing to stay in the hospital for a long period, so he could only bring her back to the villa in Fountain Garden. and arrange for a caregiver to take care of her.
He planned to stay at the company but turned the car around for some reason.
As soon as he walked into the villa’s hall, Joseph saw Rylie sitting on the sofa, with several servants standing before her. “You’ve returned just in time. Take a moment to listen to the truth about the medicinal soup being overturned this afternoon.”
Joseph’s brows furrowed as he walked over.
A round–faced servant immediately said, “At that time, Miss Hamilton did not allow us to help Mrs. Julia in the kitchen and chased us out. But I dared not venture far away, and from outside, I heard Miss Hamilton ask Mrs. Julia to make coffee and desserts for her.”
Not long after the servant finished speaking, Rylie’s beautiful face showed anger, and she spoke sternly. “Who does she think she is? She hasn’t even married you, yet she’s acting arrogantly in the Mullins family. Julia has worked so hard to make medicinal soup for me. Does Amelie think she can boss Julia around like a servant?”
With a stern expression and tightly pressed lips, Joseph remained silent.
Rylie glanced at him, then pointed to another middle–aged maid and asked, “Can you explain how the medicinal soup was spilled?”
“I also heard the sounds in the kitchen as I was pouring water outside. Miss Hamilton knocked over the desserts made for her by Mrs. Julia on intentions and asked Mrs. Julia to pick it up and eat it. She also said that in the future, when she marries into the Mullins family, she can generously let Mrs. Julia work as a maid in the Mullins family and make soup for her to drink,” the maid replied.
Joseph’s pupils contracted, and he suddenly looked at the speaking servant.
The middle–aged maid had worked for the Mullins family for nearly 20 years, and Joseph knew she would not lie. “Carry on. What else did Miss Hamilton say?”
Rylie gave a cold snort and gestured for the servant to continue speaking.
*Afterwards, out of curiosity, I glanced into the kitchen and saw Miss Hamilton intentionally reach out and knock the soup that Mrs. Julia made onto the floor. Mrs. Julia then took a glass of water and splashed it on Miss Hamilton’s face,” added the
servant.
Joseph and Rylie were both aware of what would happen next.
For a moment, the sound of a pin dropping could be heard in the hall. The two hosts did not speak, and the servants dared
not breathe.
There was a chill in the air.
After a while, Rylie stood up and sneered coldly. “Is this the delicate and virtuous woman you have spoken of?”
When Joseph remained silent, Rylie’s chest continued to heave up and down, and eventually, she let out a sigh before going upstairs to rest.
After tossing and turning for the whole afternoon, she felt tired.
The two servants went to do their tasks, and only Joseph remained in the living room. He stood there for a long time, motionless.

Chapter 23
The next day. Julia arranged for the driver of the Lopez family to deliver the medicinal soup.
Rylie knew Julia was unwilling to visit her at the house for now, so she drove Joseph out as well. Out of sight, out of mind.
However, Joseph didn’t return to the villa where Amelie stayed and slept at the company for the next few days.
When Amelie couldn’t see him, she got angry and smashed a pair of cat figurines in the living room.
The maid who was in charge of taking care of Julia tidied up the messy living room and couldn’t help but feel heartbroken when she saw the broken figurines. She said, “Miss Hamilton, how could you break this? Mrs. Mullins bought these.”
Upon hearing the servant’s address to Julia, Amelie’s face was filled with dissatisfaction and annoyance. “Mrs. Mullins? Julia was kicked out a long time ago. What kind of Mrs. Mullins is she? In the future, you can only address me as Mrs. Mullins.”
The servant kept her head down and remained silent, quietly cleaning up the fragments of the broken figurines. Amelie looked at the cozy living room decor with a critical eye, feeling increasingly unhappy.
The servant reminded her earlier that there were countless things in this villa related to Julia, and she would not leave a single
one.
In the operating room, Julia was calm and focused as she sutured the patient’s wound.
On the side, her assistant, Byron, occasionally wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
This surgery had been going on for nearly 10 hours, and Julia’s strength was gradually wearing out. It wasn’t until the final stitch was closed that her pale face finally relaxed.
The nurse quickly pushed the patient out while Julia removed her mask. Just as she took a few steps, her vision suddenly went black, and she stumbled, almost falling backward onto the operating table.
Julia!” Byron quickly supported her.
Upon seeing her pale lips and the unpleasant complexion on Julia’s face, pain and worry were evident on Byron’s handsome face. He lifted her frail body easily. “Please move aside. Make way!”
Avoiding nurses and other patients along the way, Byron brought the unconscious Julia to the emergency room.
“What happened?” the emergency doctor asked hastily.
Julia collapsed from exhaustion after performing surgery for 10 hours straight,” said Byron with a deep voice, his handsome face filled with concern. “Give her a thorough examination.”
The emergency doctor’s face showed some displeasure as he heard the tone of the young intern giving orders.
In the next second, he could see Byron’s cold and firm gaze on him. It was filled with urgency. With a sudden realization, he instinctively helped Julia to check.
When Julia woke up, she found herself on the emergency room bed.
She was about to sit up when Byron, standing by her bedside, instinctively reached out and put a hand on her shoulder,
Julia, please don’t get up yet. I have arranged for you to take leave. You need to rest,” said Byron.
Byron’s handsome face was now filled with gravity when he usually smiled. Julia furrowed her brows slightly and asked, “What’s wrong with me?*
Dr. Lopez, you are pregnant, the emergency doctor said as he glanced at Byron.

Chapter 23
Julia instinctively lowered her head and placed her hand on her abdomen.
Her tense nerves suddenly relaxed.
She had been constantly ignoring the unusual signs in her body these days, with a hint of evasion, refusing to undergo any examinations. However, she knew her own body the best.
Now that she knew she was pregnant, Julia was no longer as nervous as before.
There was a little life inside her belly connected to her bloodline. Just the thought of it warmed her heart.
Byron, who had been silent the entire time, suddenly spoke up. “Julia, do you want to keep this child?”
Julia was taken aback slightly. She fell silent, pursing her lips.
“I know it may not be appropriate for me to say this, but this is your ex–husband’s child. You are divorced, and being a single mother is not an easy task,” added Byron.
Not to mention that she had just returned to the Lopez family. At this time, telling her biological parents that she was pregnant, I’m afraid they will be even more worried, thought Byron.
Although young. Byron was very thoughtful in his considerations.
Julia once again let her gaze fall on her abdomen.
The child was not even a month old, and her stomach was so flat that there was no sign of anything unusual. Julia found it hard to believe that a child had already been conceived.
I’m keeping him,” Julia suddenly announced.
Not only because she couldn’t bear to see a little life disappear, especially one that was connected to her by blood. She had rare Rh–negative blood. Over the past year, she had been serving as a mobile blood bank for Amelie. Whenever Amelie needed it, she had to donate blood for her. Nowadays, her symptoms of hypoglycemia and anemia are becoming more severe, and her physical condition has deteriorated significantly. Terminating this pregnancy might make it difficult for her to conceive another one in the future.
Julia raised her gaze to meet the complex look that Byron had and repeated, “I’m keeping him.”
