Chapter 20
This was the first time Nathen had seen Kenna so hysterical and verbally abusive.
In his impression, from the moment they first met, she was always lively and polite, exuding the youthful vigor that only recent graduates possess.
From her lively gestures, from the tone of her speech, from the bright gaze she cast, he could always catch a glimpse of some past beauty.
No one did not feel sorry for Melanie’s ruined future, everyone had their eyes on her, expecting her to take on everything.
What Nathen carried on his shoulders was not only his and Melanie’s future, but also countless
moral condemnations and scrutiny.
So since that car accident, he never slept through the night again. Either he was having endless nightmares or he couldn’t fall asleep until dawn.
He never thought about leaving Melanie, nor did he ever think about shirking his responsibilities.
Before the car accident, it was like this, and after the car accident, it was even more so.
The ever–changing world took its toll on Melanie, as she was crushed by a series of bad news.
Nathen, too, couldn’t bear the tragic reality of things changing, and could only watch as he sank
into a quagmire, gradually succumbing.
In a stagnant marriage, in the repetitive daily life, Nathen longed for the bright and sunny youthful years, longed for Melanie before the age of eighteen, and everything that had already passed away.
What he liked was not Kenna herself, but the fresh breath she brought, which was completely different from the lifelessness of the surroundings.
The brief moments of respite spent with her became Nathen’s only way to release stress.
He had not underestimated what a sensational scene it would be after the incident, and he had not
failed to consider Melanie’s reaction once she found out.
But after feeling anxious and guilty, he couldn’t help but want to steal a moment of joy again.
Every time he went to see Kenna, he would remind himself deep down that it was the last time.
After countless times, he became numb too, just like being addicted, unable to control himself
anymore.
The situation had reached a point where it was impossible to undo what had already happened.
He finally woke up.
Nathen immersed himself in the past, and the air became stagnant.

Looking at his lifeless appearance and his silent and indifferent attitude, Kenna became even more indignant.
“You are going to sink so low for a dead person…”
The words were not finished yet when the person in front suddenly lifted their head in silence.
Those lifeless eyes shot over like a sharp blade, causing Kenna’s heart to skip a beat, and the remaining words got stuck in her throat.
She realized her recent loss of composure and was about to hastily explain a few words when suddenly a sound of footsteps came from behind her.
The next second, her hair was grabbed by someone, and she was dragged backwards, and then pushed to the ground.
The sudden change happened, and just as she was about to curse after falling down in pain, she saw a middle–aged woman who bore a striking resemblance to Nathen, looking at her with a cold expression on her face.
“Even if Melanie has passed away, she is still a part of the Cowan family, and it’s not your place to comment! My son will never marry again in his lifetime, and I will never allow a woman like you to come near him. Now, get out of here!”
Nathen’s mother scolded Kenna, pointing her finger at her nose. Kenna’s face turned red and then white, unable to say anything, she could only leave dejectedly.
After watching her figure disappear, Tara turned around and stared at the person behind her for a while, then raised her hand.
With a loud bang, a bright red handprint appeared on Nathen’s pale and skinny face.
“Melanie would feel down, because of this woman, right?”
