The same day I moved in, Nate called.
As soon as I answered, he started questioning
- me.
“Sarah, where are you? What’s the meaning
of that divorce agreement you left on my
desk?”
His voice was agitated, almost angry.
I answered in a cold voice. “Nate, how did my
daughter die?”
His voice trembled. “Sarah, what are you
talking about?”
L
“Didn’t our daughter die of natural causes?”
“Is that really what happened?”
My coldness made him nervous. “Sarah, what
are you thinking? I’m heartbroken about Lily
too, but it was an accident!”
“Nate, you killed our daughter for Claire’s
son. And you’re still denying it?”
I said coldly. “Do you think I can stay with
you?”
Nate was silent.
“Sarah, what rumors have you been hearing?
How could I ever hurt my own daughter?”
L
I laughed. “Nate, you forgot to close your
computer.”
He panicked. I could hear him clicking his
mouse.
“Sarah, you’ve got it all wrong!”
“It’s not what you think!”
I didn’t want to hear it.
“Nate, we’re over. I can’t stay married to
someone who killed my daughter!”
“Sarah, I don’t agree to a divorce. You’ll
always be my wife!”
He shouted.
<
I laughed. “That’s not up to you.”
The next day, my dad rushed over. “The
private investigator found the doctors who
were at the hospital that day. They’ll figure it
out.”
“Also, I canceled a lot of Nate’s business
deals. He’s having a hard time.”
“My lawyer is on it too. If we don’t agree to
donate, Nate can’t do anything about it.”
He said coldly. “Don’t worry. He killed my
granddaughter. I won’t let him get away with
it.”
I looked at my dad and nodded.
He told me to rest and got up to leave.
I knew he was busy.
Ever since I graduated, he had wanted me to
take over the family business, but I had never
been interested.
As I watched my dad grow older, I couldn’t
help but say, “Dad, let me join the company.”
He beamed. “Good!”
“I’ll have a driver pick you up tomorrow!”
He said happily and left.
My phone rang again.
It was Nate again.
He had called countless times since last

night, but I had refused to answer.
This time, I didn’t.
I wanted to hear what he had to say.
“Sarah, where are you?”
་་་་
His voice was tired. “Sarah, I was wrong.
Please forgive me.”
“I know I messed up, but I didn’t know what
else to do!”
I laughed coldly. “Because you didn’t know
what else to do, you killed my daughter!”
“Now you want me to forgive you?”
!!Sarah come back We’ll have another baby
L
Claire is gone, and she’s never coming back!”
“Sarah, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me!”
I heard Nate crying.
I laughed. “Nate, we’re done.”
I hung up.
I could never forgive Nate.
He knew how much I had wanted this child.
For the months I was pregnant, I had waited
for the baby to be born.
