Now, as Leon reminisced about the past, he could feel the heart–wrenching pain.
She was still carrying their child. Her health had always been fragile. She had always been terrified of pain since she was a child.
How had she managed all this time…?
Leon buried his face in his hands, crying uncontrollably.
Just then, his phone rang and a flicker of hope ignited in his chest. He answered the call, trembling.
“Leon, my stomach hurts so much, it feels like something’s wrong with the baby. Can you come be with me?”
Leon recognized this as Myrna‘ s petty attempt at jealousy. In the past, he might have relished having two women who adored him, each using whatever means

But now, all he felt was deep disgust.
“Shut up! Why did you send those messages to Cassidy? Have you forgotten what I told you? If anything happens to Cassidy because of you, I will make you suffer more
than death!”
Leon angrily hung up the phone.
In his mind, Cassidy‘ s pale face flashed before him–the face she had when she was
suffering from morning sickness.
She had been struggling with the
regnancy, yet she never complained.
She always said, “As long as I have you and the baby, I don‘ t mind how hard it gets.”
She endured all that pain for herself, walking alongside him through all the hardships to this point.
To outsiders, she was the glamorous Mrs. Harber. But only Leon knew how much she

had sacrificed–how much hardship she had endured to gain the approval of his family and to care for him, despite his busy schedule.
Leon stood up and slapped his own face hard, as if trying to wake himself up.
Then, he knelt down and began calling his friends one by one, asking about
Cassidy’s whereabouts.
One call, two calls, three calls… No one knew where Cassidy had gone.
“Your wife disappeared? Don‘ t joke around. You two have such a good relationship and she’s pregnant. There‘ s no way she would leave you.
“Is it because your little affair got exposed? That’s not going to end well. You know your wife‘ s temper. She’s the type who, if betrayed by a nanny she’s taken care of for years, won‘ t hesitate to send them to jail.”

“If you don’t love me, you can tell me. I won’t hold onto you. But Leon, you know what I’ve been through. I’ll never accept lies or betrayal.”
“If you betray me… I will make you live a lifetime of pain.”

couldn’t believe Cassidy had left without even saying goodbye. He couldn’t believe that after seeing him collapse, Cassidy could remain unmoved.
But no matter where he looked, he only found Myrna, crying as if her heart had shattered. “Leon, you really scared me.”
“Your sister saw you pass out on the floor and didn’t do anything. She doesn‘ t care about you at all!”
A ringing sound echoed in Leon’s ears.
Cassidy was really gone. She wouldn’t come back… ever again.
Seeing the barely hidden joy in Myrna’s eyes, Leon raised his hand and slapped her hard until she fell.
