Chapter 9
Leon went on to hit Myrna relentlessly, without holding back.
“It’s all your fault, you bitch! You drove Cassidy away!”
“Why did you send her those messages? Didn’t you know she was pregnant? Have you forgotten what I told you?”
For Leon, Myrna was nothing more than a distraction, a source of fleeting excitement. There were thousands of women like her- beautiful, eager to please. With just a wave of his hand, a new one would come
running.
But Cassidy was different.
She was his legally wedded wife, his childhood sweetheart, his first love. She was irreplaceable, a one–of–a–kind presence.

contorted with disbelief. “But I’m pregnant too… I can do everything she can and more. Why, no matter what I do, do I always fall short in your eyes?”
Furious, Leon grabbed Myrna by the neck.
“Who do you think you are, to even compare yourself to her?”
If the doctor hadn‘ t rushed in and pulled Leon away, he might have killed Myrna right then and there.
As Myrna was evacuated, she left a bloody, gruesome trail behind her. Leon stared at the bloodstains stretching across the floor, tears falling once again.
“When Cassie lost the baby… it must have been so painful,” he murmured.
The doctors and nurses exchanged uneasy glances, none daring to speak a word.
Leon couldn’t stand to waste any more time in the hospital. He used every connection he had, pouring millions into tracking

down Cassidy.
Yet, no matter what he did, he couldn’t get any news about her.
It was as if she had disappeared without a trace, as though she‘ d vanished
overnight. If not for the countless reminders of Cassidy scattered around the villa, Leon might have started to believe that everything that happened before was just a dream.
He locked himself in his room, repeatedly wiping away every trace of Cassidy that remained.
He drank himself into a drunken stupor, imagining that she was still by his side.
The housekeeper, unable to see Leon’s condition, tried to comfort him. “Maybe she just acted out of anger. Once she understands your feelings, she’ll come
back.”
“Look, she didn’t take anything with her. That means she didn’t really want to

leave.”
Leon shook his head through his tears.
“She won’t come back.”
After so many years together, they knew
each other too well. Leon looked around at everything–the glittering jewelry, the endless luxury designer clothes.
He knew Cassidy didn’t care for any of these material things.
Meanwhile, she didn’t even take her wedding ring. And there were so many other things left behind–their photo collection from childhood to their wedding day.
They had once promised to take new wedding photos every year. But ever since
Myrna came into the picture, Leon had
never found the time, continuously making
excuses.
Then there were the love letters he wrote when he was eighteen.

Back then, Cassidy teased him for writing love letters, calling it old–fashioned.
He smiled and said, “Cassie, you have no idea how amazing you are. In this life, I’m destined to be childish and old–fashioned, loving only you. I promise, I’ll write you love letters for the rest of my life.”
But how long had it been since he last picked up a pen? He couldn’t remember.
Leon pressed his hands to his head in agony.
If Cassidy had taken anything with her, it would mean she still had some attachment to their past. He would still have a chance to bring her back. But Cassidy hadn‘ t taken anything.
She came to him full of love and left, alone.
There was no love. There wasn‘ t even hate.
