Chapter 98
SONIA’S POV
Since waking up in the morning, and gearing that knock on the door, I had not taken a seat yet. Until now.
After bring up all day, running from one end of the clinic to the other, trying to manage the many casualties being pulled in, I could finally sit
As I sat on a chair in a small room, the pack doctor had recommended for me when I finally decided to take a rest, I sighed,
e as much tension as I could
I placed my hand on my neck, and began to crack it, releasing as
I cracked my fingers next, and then raised my hand as I stretched.
My stomach rumbled the more I stretched, I was thirsty, hungry, and extremely fatigued.
I decided to close my eyes a little, because it didn’t seem like I would be getting any food or water.
However, a delicious aroma drifted into my nose, and my eyes shot open
The pack doctor was standing in front of me, a small table on one hand, and a plate on the other
He set it before me, and placed the food on it
“Excuse me.
e.” he said, and stepped out.
When he returned, there was a bottle of water in
in his ha
hand
“This is from a different pack. The alpha ordered it to be brought to the hospital earlier,” he said, handing it to me.

There were tears in my eyes as I sat up. I genuinely thought that was it for the night. I wouldn’t have anything to rat
“Thank you.” I said in a shaky voice
He laughed as he dragged a chair beside me, and took his seat.
“No, thank you. You have no idea how big of a help you were to me today. Do you know how many lives would have been lost if it wasn’t for your presence? At least ten. Do you know how many lives we actually lost? Zero. You’re special, Sonia.”
I touched my chest, cas warmth crept through it. Even my wolf couldn’t help but to let out a coo
“Thank you so much, for your kindness. But before I eat, you have to tell me your name. Everyone calls you pack doctor. Don’t you miss being called your name?” I finally got to ask him.
It had been eating me up for the longest, I didn’t like to be referred to with my skills. No matter how hard bearing my name was, I liked being called
Soni
He laughed again. His laughter was really beautiful. It turned his grey hair a calmer shade of brown. It was simply the most fascinating thing.
“Carl,” he replied
“Carl! I like that.” I bobbed my head.
“Of course you do. You like
e everything. Ive never seen a more positive person than you. How do you manage to do it?”
“I don’t know. I just don’t think there’s any point being sad, right? I mean it’s an emotion you can feel in the moment. You can even cry it out, but going forward, you have to put on a smile. It calms your heart.”
“I like that,” he nodded. “Now eat. If you
If you had listened to me earlier, you would have eaten, and taken a rest already.”
“Yeah. I really don’t listen.” I laughed this time, as I dug into the food,
“It’s good right!” He asked after I took a spoon.
“Delicious!” I chewed greedily
“It’s directly from the alpha’s kitchen. I made sure they brought double portions for you, since you didn’t eat all day.”
“Really! Thank you so much Carl

“Eat up.” He urged me.
I happily obliged, I ate every last piece of chicken mixed with whatever that was. I couldn’t care less. It tasted delicioust
When I was done. I drank from the bottle Carl had given me,
In the middle of drinking, 1 paused, a thought crossing my mind.
I couldn’t get the bottle long enough to say what was on my mind.
“Hey, slow down. Are you okay?” He asked.
“The water. The sample? I didn’t get to access it,” I said, panic flashing through my eyes
He must have noticed it, as he reached for my hands.
“You just are. You need to settle down, or else, you’ll have indigestion.”
“But the water!” I fussed
“Don’t worry about it. I already told the alpha it would take quite a while for the results of the test to be ready. Just focus on yourself.”
I took a deep breath, and began to relax. Contrary to what I had thought, I liked working here.
I knew if I messed up once, Ramon would find a way to punish me. That way could be chasing me out of the clinic.
I was in my element here. It would suck if I had to leave.
“You’re scared of him,” he said, looking at me as if he could see the fear in my eyes.
“Aren’t you? Who wouldn’t be scared of him? I laughed nervously.
“But he’s your mate. That’s what I hear.”
“Yeah, that doesn’t count. He’s still a scary man.”
“He’s very strict when it comes to getting things done. Other than that, I think he’s very jovial,”
I couldn’t help the cackle I let out. “Alpha Ramon Jovial”
“Is it that hard to believe?” He asked, amazement in his eyes.
“Absolutely! I mean, I’ve seen a glimpse of his kindness, but that’s as far as it goes.”
“Don’t say that. I think you’ll see him for who he really is someday. And it’s not half as bad as you t
think
Yeah, I had seen enough. I knew t there was good in him. I just didn’t think I would fully enjoy his goodness.
Sure he touched me in a way no one had, or could, and gave me pleasures that were too complicated for my naive mind, but he also took a lot of things from me.
Sometimes, he even made me feel inadequate,
“I hope the future holds something good,” I finally said.
“And 1-”
