Chapter 13
Steven walked into the bedroom and picked up the engagement ring. Beneath it lay a document that struck him like a bolt of lightning, freezing him in place.
[Agreement for Annulment of Engagement.]
“I, Gianna Wilson, voluntarily annulled. my engagement with Mr. Steven Thompson. The engagement ring has been returned. From now on, Gianna and Steven will have no further relationship. Signed: Gianna Wilson.]
Reading the contents of the agreement, Steven felt a surge of pressure in his chest. The intense feeling of suffocation made it hard for him to breathe. His eyes were wide open, bloodshot and filled with disbelief.
His hand, still holding the agreement, trembled as he muttered in shock.

“Annul the engagement? Gianna, how dare you annul our engagement? You‘ re my fiancée! You always will be!”
The thing he had feared most had come.

Gianna hadn’t just turned off her phone; she had fully intended to leave him.
“You want to run away? I won’t let you get what you want!” The words came out through gritted teeth.
He dialed Gianna‘ s number again, but the result was still the same–the phone was off.
At this point, Steven realized that Gianna’s departure was inevitable. He had no choice but to force himself to remain calm and figure out how to stop it.
He recalled how Gianna had deliberately provoked him the previous night, starting a cold war to create the perfect moment to slip away unnoticed.

Steven felt like slapping himself. He had given Gianna the chance to escape.
“Think, think, where would she go?” he mumbled anxiously.
Steven quickly calmed himself and started to mentally list the places where Gianna might be.
It was then that he received a call from Chloe.
“Steven, I’m off work. Can you come pick me up?”
But Steven was burning with anxiety. Gianna’s departure felt like a fire that had been lit inside his chest, growing uncontrollably.
Without hesitation, he rejected Chloe. “I have something to do. Go home by yourself.”
“Is it because of Gianna again? I knew she didn’t like me…” Chloe didn’t finish her words when Steven snapped at her.

“Shut up!”
A sudden burst of anger surged from deep within him, and he hung up the phone.
Gianna had left him–why should he care about Chloe’s complaints?
However, Chloe’s words did trigger something in Steven. He suddenly realized something he hadn’t thought of before- the strange behavior Gianna had exhibited in recent days.
No matter what decision he made, Gianna had always agreed without protest.
Even when he had brought Chloe into their home to stay, Gianna had agreed without hesitation.
Steven suddenly grabbed the engagement ring from the table, his eyes turning red.
“So, Gianna, you‘ ve been plotting to get away from me all along, haven’t you?” He spoke the harshest words, but his eyes were beginning to tear up.

He suddenly missed Gianna so much.
“Gianna, if you would just appear before me right now, I would forgive everything you’ve done.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the door to the house opened. He rushed. outside in excitement, only to find that the one who had opened the door was Chloe.
“Steven, what’s wrong with you today? You didn’t come to pick me up and now you‘ re being so cold to me!” Chloe coquettishly complained.
She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his, starting to complain about Gianna again.
“How come Gianna hasn’t come back to cook dinner yet? Are you waiting for her to make dinner for you, Steven? She really doesn’t understand her place.”
