Chapter 2
From the first night I spent with Caleb, I knew his heart belonged to someone else, and I was merely a substitute.
So all along, to satisfy my sponsor and encourage him to spend more, I’ve diligently tried to imitate the person in his heart.
I’ve been with Caleb for six years, and most people in our circle know of my existence.
That’s why, the moment Scarlett returned, people started sending me mocking messages.
[A fake will always be a fake. Now that the real person is back, I wonder what you’ll do.]
[Don’t you feel ashamed for stealing someone else’s love for so long?]
Looking at these messages, I helplessly spread my hands. What could I do? Just lie by the pool of this luxury villa, eating fresh seasonal fruits flown in from around the world, drinking from Caleb’s collection of wines worth millions.
Oh, and I could also ride in a helicopter, flying along specially approved routes to admire the magnificent landscapes of China.
In winter, I could soak in a private hot spring or ski at a private resort.

These luxuries were all I had to console myself with.
However, thinking about saying goodbye to all this soon made me feel a bit reluctant.
I immediately opened my phone and went on a massive shopping spree.
Before leaving, I couldn’t neglect myself.
Looking at the shopping orders that stretched so long I couldn’t scroll to the bottom, my mood improved considerably.
Tonight, just as I was planning to enjoy this large bed alone, I heard the door open, followed by the sound of Caleb removing his shoes.
I checked my phone for the time–it was 6:30 PM.
I was surprised. The love of his life had returned, so why was he home so early?
Couldn’t they properly catch up, talk, have dinner, drink…
Stop! Don’t think about it anymore. Not everyone has such materialistic thinking like me.
I sighed, composed myself, and walked toward the door. Suddenly, I noticed Caleb holding a familiar box.

“Natalie, I’ve told you many times not to use the company address for these things.”
Inside the box was a prominent black sheer lace nightgown.
I looked up and asked, “Do you like it?”
Caleb sighed and replied with resignation, “Yes, I do.”
The corner of my mouth curved slightly upward. What did it matter if he liked it? In Caleb’s heart, Scarlett would always come first.
In the days that followed, I rarely saw Caleb.
I was actually glad to have some breathing room, no longer needing to decipher Caleb’s thoughts. Thinking about my life ahead, I began quietly transferring the money I’d received from Caleb over the years.
I whispered to myself, “After this birthday, I can leave.” My birthday was just half a month away.
Since meeting Caleb, he had spent every birthday with me.
I hoped he would accompany me for this final birthday.
