Chapter 3
The day Caleb returned, I had fallen asleep on the couch after binge–watching shows and getting exhausted.
I was awakened by the strong smell of alcohol.
Opening my eyes, I found myself being held in Caleb’s arms, finding myself unexpectedly staring into his bloodshot eyes.
For some reason, my hand slowly reached up to touch his eyes.
“Have you been busy lately?”

“Yes, there’s something rather difficult to handle. Once I resolve this issue, I won’t be busy anymore, and I can spend more time with you.”
I nodded sweetly and obediently, suppressing my curiosity and not asking what had happened.
“Alright, you should go to bed now. I still have some matters to attend to.”
Despite trying to sleep, I lay alone in the soft bed, completely awake.
With Caleb’s exhausted appearance lingering in my mind, I eventually couldn’t resist getting out of bed and going to the kitchen to make him a cup of honey water.
obed the study door. I hesitated.

Let Scarlett think about it on her own.

Soon after, the compatibility results came back. The match was extremely high, as if it had been custom–made specifically for Scarlett.
I frowned, feeling genuinely reluctant.
That night, Caleb’s brow was no longer furrowed, and there was no smell of alcohol on him. The way he looked at me, his eyes seemed to glow.
He quickly came forward and embraced me, saying, “Natalie, I can stay with you tonight.”
A self–mocking smile appeared on my face, reflecting my inner bitterness, as I stiffly patted his back and replied, “Okay.”
In reality, if he had just investigated a little deeper, he would have known that I was the one who went for the compatibility
test.
But he was overjoyed because his Scarlett could now survive.
I pushed him away and faced him, asking, “Are you done with the company matters?”
I hoped that perhaps he would tell me everything truthfully, but he didn’t.
*Yes… the problem’s been solved. I can spend more time with you now.*
*Okay.*

Once I understood this, I immediately felt relieved, with a sense of clarity and understanding.
I quickly ran downstairs in my slippers and began opening the packages. After all, they cost nothing, might as well enjoy them.
If I liked something, I’d keep it; if not, I could return it and exchange it for cash.
These would all be guarantees for my future happiness.
With this in mind, I became more energetic. Before long, I had finished sorting everything and skillfully dialed the number for luxury item recycling.
Looking at the amount deposited into my bank account, last night’s discomfort had completely vanished. No one fights with money, especially someone like me who has experienced poverty.
Looking at the half–empty living room, I made another call.
“Hey, Jane, come over quickly.”
Jane was my childhood friend and the only person who knew my
secret.
Soon after, a tall, beautiful woman appeared in the living room.
I winked at Jane and said, “Same as usual, pick what you like and send the rest to the usual place.”
Jane Jenkins skillfully gave me an “OK” sign and began sorting through the items.
The usual place was my happy haven that I had prepared for myself
Chapter 3
To ensure absolute safety, I planned to head near Caleb’s private hospital and fake my death by “creating an accident.”

However, plans change quickly. While I was driving normally, a large truck crashed into the rear of my car.
After a loud bang, I felt the whole world go quiet.
Apparently, when you’re in a car accident, you don’t feel pain immediately.
That was my first thought.
I seemed to feel someone pulling me out of the deformed vehicle.
Then frantically performing first aid on me.
“Hang in there, just hang in there a little longer.”
Sweat dripped onto my cheeks, feeling warm.
At that moment, I had only one thought.
Stop trying to save me—if I’m really rescued, my fake death plan will fail.
Perhaps my prayer worked, as I felt my body becoming lighter and lighter until my soul floated into the air.
I saw the young man who had been performing first aid still refusing to give up.
Sorry about that.
An ambulance arrived quickly with its siren blaring—this was the
