Chapter 4
I have no idea what happened to Caleb afterward.
Perhaps he once loved me, but now with Scarlett by his side, he’s probably forgotten all about me.
These days, I’m thriving abroad.
I got into a prestigious university and currently work in the arts. My mentor praises me as a once–in–a–century genius.
It seems I’m not just a little monster, but a genius too.
I lit a cigarette and took a slow drag, my final project sitting right in front of me.
A young man standing beside me asked, “Got a light?”
I casually pulled out a lighter and handed it to him.
“Thanks.”
And so, the two of us–one standing, one sitting–stayed by the lake for hours.
Before leaving, he said, “I’m Zachary Foster. I think I saw you on the lakeside overpass two years ago.”
It was him, the person who kept trying to save me.

“You’ve got the wrong person,” I smiled.
He pointed to his earlobe, which had a light red birthmark.

“I noticed something when I was checking your carotid pulse.”
“I asked the hospital about you, and they all said you died. That was my first attempt at saving someone, and I failed.”
“I kept thinking: if I had tried harder, if I had known more, would you still be alive?”
“Thankfully, you are.”
I looked at him. In the sunset, his features appeared slightly
blurred.
“Thank you. I am alive. Now I need to leave with my final project,” I said with a smile.
He stood before me and said deliberately, “I’m Zachary.” Then he asked, “Could you tell me your name?”
I pointed to my chest and told him, “My heart has been wounded, so I don’t dare give my name to strangers anymore.”
After saying this, I left without looking back.
Just as one problem remained unsolved, another appeared.
I had barely returned when I received a call from Jane. She had

ultimately decided to stay and develop her career in our home country.
“Something major happened! Remember when Caleb refused to bury that fake urn? We had no choice but to keep it at my place.”
“Today, something triggered him, and he suddenly came to grab your urn. Of course, I couldn’t let him have it!”
“During the struggle, your ‘ashes‘ accidentally spilled out.”
“Caleb broke down at that moment. He knelt on the floor, collecting your ashes.”
“And then… that baby formula really is excellent. Even after all this time, it still has a rich, milky aroma.”
I…
I’m screwed.
Now I’m the one who’s triggered.
I can’t take this anymore. I only had two peaceful years!
“Jane, for the sake of our years of sisterhood, you absolutely cannot tell him where I am.”
“Too late, darling. He’s tracked you down.”
OK, time to move out tonight.
