- 8.
Mark stayed next door,
But he didn’t bother me.
I pretended I didn’t see him.
He couldn’t get me back.
L
He was lying to himself.
My high school friend came to see me.
He was helping me with tests, and we talked,
and Mark thought we were together.
He ran up and tried to hit my friend, and I
stopped him.
“Get out of here, don’t stop my work.”
My friend left, and I pushed Mark away.
“You’ve had time to think, come home with
me.‘
He wanted me to think the past few years
were a cold war?
Г
“Did you hear me? We’re divorced, I don’t
love you, can you understand that?”
“I can’t forget you, and Brittany in bed with
you.”
“And the condoms you wanted me to get, and
the fireworks with her name.”
“How can you ask me to come home with
you? You got your fun, now deal with it.”
My words were like knives.
He was struggling to breathe.
I stopped myself, and Brittany showed up.
He killed her, but here she was, nothing
changed.
“Hit him, why don’t you, you’re almost trash
anyways.”
Brittany was evil, but to Mark she changed
her attitude.
“Trash talk, are you a dog? If so, I should shut
the door and throw rocks.”
I wasn’t going to be patient, she wanted to
play around in my territory, then I could throw
her out.
“Babe, she just called you and me dogs, let
me teach her a lesson.”
Brittany stopped smiling and went to attack
- me.
“SLAP!”
“Shut up, you’re my dog, but you want to take
over.”
“I told you to stay away from me, I don’t mind
cutting your ears off.”
