In the car, Oliver drove while Cynthia explained the Campbell family’s situation to Hannah The Campbells are a tricky bunch.” Cynthia started, as the city lights zipped by the car windows. “They never took to Marcus, and once Benedict was born, he was their golden boy, the heir apparent.” She sighed and went on, The grown–ups playing favorites probably soured Marcus on Benedict. Plus, with their dad sick and the whole who’s–gonna–inherit drama, Benedict’s accident is real bad timing”
When they arrived at the hospital, Benedict Campbell was still in surgery. Marcus was there, sitting outside the operating room, just staring into space.
“What happened, Marcus? How did Benedict get into a car accident” Oliver asked.
After a brief silence, Marcus replied, “He borrowed my car to hang out, and crashed it.”
That had everyone’s wheels turning. ‘Had an accident in Marcus car? His family will hit the roof?”
Then, out came the doctor with a head shake and said. “Did all we could.”
The news hit like a punch. Marcus‘ face turned ghost white.
What Hannah didn’t see was the family’s meltdown because her job took her to the morgue. Since accidents mess people up, they often need fixing, and that was what Hannah did. That was Hannah’s first task after she started working again. She carefully handled Benedict’s last touch–ups, making him look like himself again.
All those whispers about her losing her touch after two years shut up pretty quick.
When Hannah saw Marcus again, it was in the cemetery. Members of the Campbell family were in tears.
Only Marcus, dressed in black, stood at the side expressionlessly
His mom was a wreck. She nearly passed out from all the sobbing, yelling. “My baby boy!” After crying, she lunged at Marcus and punched him. “That was your own brother!”
Marcus just took it., saying nothing. However, his gaze was filled with coldness and disappointment.
And there was their dad, Finlay Campbell, sick and looking weak He caught a glimpse of Marcus’s emotionless mug and smacked him right across the face. “You heartless thing! You even killed your own brother!”
The car accident was caused by brake failure. Everyone believed that it was Marcus who had done it.
Marcus just took the slap and didn’t move. He stared at Finlay coldly and said, “I repeat–it has nothing to do with me.” Another punch landed on Marcus from Finlay. Marcus just wiped away a trickle of blood, still not saying much Meanwhile, Hannah could not bear to see it anymore. After all, she owed Marcus big time for helping her get back at her enemies. Stepping in, she pulled Marcus aside and said to Finlay coldly, “Ease up, Sir. This is hallowed ground” Then she whisked Marcus away.
Oliver wanted to stop Hannah, but she already left. So he ended up telling Finlay, “Hannah’s always done her own thing. Mr. Campbell” He was Marcus’s friend, so he couldn’t care less about playing nice with the Campbells.

Finlay was so angry that his face turned red and his chest heaved Nevertheless, he knew Hannah’s reputation and merely waved his hand without saying anything.
Under a tree, Hannah gave Marcus the once–over, checking out his swelling face, all frowny. “Dude, why didn’t you duck or something?”
Marcus remained silent.
Hannah stood on her tiptoes to check his wound carefully.
That was when she got this prickly feeling of eyes on her. She took a look around and there was Wallace, decked out in his funeral black, staring them down from not too far off.
