Chapter 4
Wallace’s grim face was hard to miss as he headed for a booth. Someone nudged him, “Wallace, aren’t you going to talk to your wife?”
“She’s not my wife,” replied Wallace. His eyes stuck on Hannah, all lit up and laughing. Let’s see what kind of mess she’s gonna make tonight, he thought. They both settled into their seas
Wallace couldn’t take his eyes off Hannah–it was as if she was a different person.
For the last couple of years, Hannah was this sweet, chill girl who always played by the rules with Wallace. Her hair usually flowed free, and she hardly ever bothered with makeup. She was pretty, but plain.
But now she was rocking bright red lipstick, heavy makeup, and lamming the drums like a boss. Wallace had never seen her so full of life.
Wallace abruptly gulped down a glass of wine.
The moment Hannah finished her drum solo, everyone clapped big time. She gave them a smile and stretched out, showing off her sun–kissed midrift.
She glanced over and noticed Cynthia dancing up close with some guy. ‘Cynthia’s too busy to hang. Hannah thought. stepping down from the stage.
“Hey, gorgeous, someone greeted..
Hannah wasn’t even sure they
ey were talking to her, but she turned to see who it was anyway.
A tall guy was chilling by the bar, kind of hard to see in the shady lighting. He had a slight smirk and his eyes sparkled like he had some secret. The way he looked at her made Hannah uncomfortable. She squinted a bit and asked, “Hey, do you need something?”
The guy, Marcus Campbell, gave her a long look before busting cut, “You look familiar.”
Hannah didn’t know what to say. “Dude, that’s the oldest line ever
Marcus didn’t smile this time. He scratched his head and then it hit him. “Wait a second! Aren’t you Oli’s sister?”
“You know my brother, Oliver?” Hannah was totally surprised.
Marcus laughed and came over, slapping Hannah’s back in a friendly way and guiding her to another room. “I’m Marcus. Oliver’s old buddy. Don’t you remember me?”
Hannah wasn’t cool with strangers hugging her. She pulled away quickly, giving him a look. “Just because you’re Oliver’s friend doesn’t mean you can grab me, okay?”
“Ouch,” Marcus joked, “Cot a feisty one here! C’mon, let’s grab a drink.” Before she could say–no, Marcus had whisked her away to a side room.
‘Why am I in a side room with this guy?‘ Hannah thought, starting to get really annoyed. She stayed on her toes and kept one hand on her purse.
Suddenly, Marcus signalled two girls over and hugged them, one on each side.

Hannah didn’t say a word but gave Marcus the cold stare. After a bit, she asked, “Does Oliver act like this to
Marcus waved the girls off and leaned in with a playful grin. “Wanna know about Oliver? Take a seat, and we’ll talk, Kitty”
But Hannah wasn’t having any of it. She got up and looked right down at him. “I’m out

“I think Oliver’s got someone else on his mind, so… Marcus started, but he got cut off when the door got slammed open.
Hannah jumped–she almost let out a curse.
“Who the heck are you?” Marcus grumbled, frowning
In walked this tall, scowling guy who looked pretty ticked off.
Hannah blinked, trying to figure it out. “Who’s this guy looking for? Me?
“You’re quite capable, aren’t you? Haven’t found anything about you in days, Wallace said through his tight–lipped scowl, stopping right across from Hannah.
ng to me? Have we met?”
Hannah was baffled. ‘Is he talking
Wallace shot Marcus a look that was dripping with sarcasm. “Didn’t expect you to be starting trouble like this. Hannah got instantly mad. ‘Who is this guy? Throwing shade as soon as he walks in? I don’t even know him!
