Chapter 9
Hannah spun around. Bethany Elsher was coming downstairs, looking all fancy, makeup on point, but her eyes were just full of judgement.
Right then. Hannah guessed Bethany must’ve been the one who had it out for her, making her quit her job.
“Hello, Mom, greeted Wallace apathetically.
Knowing what Melinda.
was, Hannah just gave a little nod, then beamed at Melinda. Til wash my hands first, Grandma
Wallace watched Hannah, expecting her to sass Bethany like she did with him. He smirked and started telling his mom, “Hey. Hannah is-
Bethany wasn’t a fan of Hannah but she respected Melinda enough to just say, “It’s for her own good.”
Once she was back, Hannah just chatted with Melinda and acted ake Bethany wasn’t there.
Then, the dinner was served by the help. Hannah helped Melinda to her seat, but when she saw the food, she couldn’t help. but lose her smile. She loved spicy stuff, but the food in front of her was way too bland. After being married to Wallace for two years, she thought his family would know what she liked
Bethany obviously told the staff to cook the most boring thing possible as soon as she hit the kitchen.
After just a couple of bites, Hannah put her fork down. Wallace noticed she barely ate and looked concerned but kept quiet
It was Melinda who said something “Is that it, Anna? They are your favorites.”
Hannah’s spirits dropped, and her head started to throb. I was such a fool when I was in love! she wondered. ‘Did I fake liking food I hated just for him? Man, I go all in for the people I care about
She figured she’d been too good at faking before and couldn’t blow her cover now, So, with a smile, she said, “Just not that hungry today”
When dinner wrapped up, it was time for Hannah and Wallace to head out
Melinda hated to see Hannah go. “You’re the one I picked for my grandson, Anna. If anyone’s giving you trouble, let me know. I’ll deal with them. Wallace will regret it if he leaves you” Melinda had been around the block and could spot trouble in her family without a second look.

“I got it. Grandma Melinda Wallace is good to me. I’ll come by more from now on.” Hannah knew better than to stir the pot and left it at that, all smiles
They were almost out the door when Bethany cornered Wallace. You stay. We need to talk.” Before he could respond, Hannah chimed in, “I’m gonna head out.”
Thinking it must be something big for Bethany to keep him back, Wallace told Hanpah, “Hold up. It’s late. I’ll have the driver take you.”
Hannah was cool with it. “Sure.” She didn’t even spare Bethany a glance.
Her attitude annoyed Bethany. After Hannah left, Bethany called Wallace to her room. Alone with him, she didn’t hold back how much she couldn’t stand Hannah. “She’s got zero manners. Worse than before…”

Chapter 9
Wallace had a frown on as soon as she started in on Hannah. He ut her off, ‘So, what’d you want, Mom?
Bethany let the Hannah topic go and passed Wallace her phone with an icy stare. Look at this
Wallace picked it up, and a grim look appeared on his face. It was pictures of Hannah and some guy named Marcus at a
club
Hannah’s face was very clear in the photos, but it was difficult te Marcus features clearly.
Some of the photos were taken at a suggestive angle to make the wo appear intimate
Wallace was gripping the phone hand, his eyes stormy. After a bit he sighed heavy and told his mom. “It’s not what it looks
like”
“But this is right here! What else could it be?” she pressed.
Before Bethany could go on, Wallace put the phone down and kept it cool. “Thing is, Mom, Hannah and fare split up”
