- 12.
Jake took a deep breath.

I kept going.
“Was it because Tiffany wanted to play
piano?”
“Art is expensive. You have to pay for the
teachers, piano, and connections.”
“Tiffany needs all that money, so you had to
let her, right?”
“Who made you drop out? – Mom?”
“Dad didn’t stop her.”
“Mom made the decision.”
“Dad did what she said.”
୮
“Tiffany didn’t care.”
Jake yelled, “I didn’t like school.”
“Lots of people don’t like school, but they
want a degree so they can get a job.”
“I didn’t go to school, so I can only work at a
bubble tea shop or do deliveries.”
“Now I’m ugly, and I can’t get a job.”
“What about you?”
Jake got up.
“We’re family. We have to help each other.”
“You’re the older sister, Tiffany’s the younger

one. You have to help her.”
“If you want to stay here, be nice to Tiffany.”
I laughed. “Okay.”
Hopefully, Jake wouldn’t regret it.
Tiffany was mean, and I pretended to be okay
with it. Then, I told Jake.
Tiffany became the villain.
Jake started to believe me and started to help
- me.
He told Tiffany, “We’re family. We shouldn’t
fight.”
“Are you on her side? Who are you?”
Г
“You’re both my sisters.”
“I hate you!” Tiffany yelled. “You’re related to
that trash!”
Jake stopped smiling. “Tiffany, how can you
say that to me?”
“Is that not true? She’s trash! You’re helping
her, so you’re trash too!”
Tiffany threw decorations at Jake.
Jake’s face started bleeding.
“Don’t,” he said. “Don’t do this.”
“Get out! You’re not my brother!”
Jake and Tiffany fought.
Tiffany yelled.
She hated Jake.
I stayed in the storage room, so she had to
fight with Jake.
Mom said, “Your sister is going to college
soon. Just put up with her for one more
month.”
Jake agreed.
Things that used to be thrown at me, were
thrown at Jake.
He dealt with it.

LIV
I watched.
It wasn’t enough.
I had to make the volcano erupt.
