- 5.
Jake rushed in and dragged me back to the
storage room.
“It’s just a toy,” he said.
<
My eyes were red, but I held my rabbit tight.
“It’s not just a toy, it’s family. It’s the only
family I’ve got…”
He acted so different than yesterday.
“You only had the rabbit when you were lost,
so you put all your love for your family into
it.”
“But it’s different now.”
“You have Mom and Dad, and Jake, and
Tiffany. We’re all your family now.”
He held my shoulders, repeating, “That rabbit
is just a normal toy.”
“You can get those anywhere.”
Г
“Don’t ruin your relationship with your sister
over a rabbit.”
I stared at Jake’s face, which was still
swollen.
“You’re so good to Tiffany. Why does she still
hurt you?”
Jake touched his cheek, confused.
He’d been slapped by Tiffany before, so he
didn’t think anything of it.
I asked, “Why does Tiffany have a huge
bedroom with a private bathroom, a closet,
and a music room, while you have one small
room?”
く
Jake looked stressed.
He didn’t say anything, just left.
I stared at his back.
Did Jake really not have any feelings about
Tiffany? Was that even possible?
I didn’t think so.
