Love at the Right Time
Chapter 1
The night I got married, I caught my dad’s
adopted son nailing my bride on our freaking
wedding bed.
I went ballistic, naturally. But Chad, the
adopted jerk, didn’t even apologize. He pulled
a knife and nearly gutted me.
Next thing I knew, I woke up in the hospital.
My childhood bestie, Lucy, a hotshot lawyer,
was there, bawling her eyes out.
“Don’t worry, Mikey,” she sobbed. “I’m gonna make that bastard pay.”
Touched, I put everything in her hands. Chad

After I got discharged, Lucy, bless her heart,
proposed. Said she wanted to make up for
the whole wedding–night disaster.
We became, like, the perfect couple.
Everyone envied us. Then, one day, I
accidentally overheard Lucy on the phone
with Chad, who was supposed to be rotting in
prison.
“You saved my ass back then,” he was
saying. “And then you married him for me.
You’ve sacrificed so much.”
“It’s nothing for you, babe. I couldn’t let you
rot in a jail cell, and I couldn’t bear to see you
get nothing after the old man kicked the
bucket.”
The penny finally dropped “Love“? It was all

If that’s how it was, I was outta there.
“Honey, you’ve given up so much for me. I’m
so sorry you have to suffer like this.”
I stood at the doorway, and Chad’s voice
floated from inside the room, and I felt as if
all the blood in my veins had turned to ice.
What? Was marrying me that bad?! She has
to suffer at the thought of me?!
I then heard Lucy choke back tears. “Chad, it
wasn’t your fault. I forgive you. And marrying
Mikey is just so you can inherit the company.”
My heart clenched in my chest, and a dull

pain started throbbing, I remembered waking
up in the hospital, Lucy’s eyes filled with love
and concern.
It was all fake!
From their call, I knew Chad wasn’t in prison.
There’s no way you could use a cell phone
while in prison!
“Honey, just hang on for a little while longer
and you can finally relax.”
Chad’s voice was smooth and I ran from the
room, not ready to face the truth.
The wife I loved for three years tells me
everything was a lie! How could I accept it?!
Lucy finished her phone call and came

downstairs, saw me looking pale, and
assumed I was worried about my grandfather.
Lucy sat next to me, took my hand and
whispered, “Mikey, Gramps will be okay.”
I smelled the fragrance of her perfume and
felt sick and I pulled away from her.
‘…Honey?”
Lucy looked at me confused but before I
could say anything the phone rang.
“Hello? Mr. Chad? Your grandfather is in
critical condition and is asking for you to be
here immediately!”
“What?! What happened to my grandfather?!”
<
I said in a shocked voice, and without
thinking, started walking towards the front
door.
“Honey, don’t panic! I’ll go and make sure
everything is handled on our end! You know
everyone is going to hear the news and they’ll
try to get ahead!”
Lucy said hurriedly. Ever since I got hurt from
Chad I’m unable to move around as quick.
I watched her grab the keys and run out the
door.
If I didn’t know the truth I would have believed
she was worried that Gramps would die and
there would be no one to take charge and
that my family would take advantage of the

that my family would take advantage of the
situation.
But knowing everything I knew now, I knew
she just wanted to set the stage for Chad!
Chad said on the phone to wait for a little bit
longer, and they were just waiting for Gramps
to die!
Watching her drive away, I got in the car and
told the driver to rush to the hospital.
Even though the driver drove quickly, I was
still late, and missed the last time I could see
Gramps.
When I ran into the room, Gramps was on the
bed and covered with a white sheet.
