place like this.”
Chapter 5
Now that we were alone, Chad dropped the
act.
Seeing how they were determined to leave me
with nothing, a strange calm settled over me.
At least I figured out their game now.
When Lucy and Chad took off again, I left a
divorce agreement and bailed on that place.
く
Just outside my crummy apartment complex,
Lucy leaned over and kissed Chad, not
bothering to hide their relationship.
“Babe, why did you have to push Mikey’s
buttons like that? Good thing he didn’t flip
out like at the hospital, or we’d be in a mess.”
Chad, ignoring her complaint, wrapped his
arm around her waist and chuckled.
“What’s the matter, getting soft? You didn’t
actually fall for him during those three years,
did you? Now you’re regretting how things
played out?”
A flicker of something crossed Lucy’s face,
but she shook her head quickly.
く
“Of course not! It’s just that, if Mikey hadn’t
been your rival, he actually wasn’t a bad
guy…”
Chad cut her off impatiently.
“Drop it. Is that will you drew up really solid? |
keep thinking some of the properties on that
list don’t match what I remember.”
Lucy frowned, barely noticeably, before
saying, “Impossible. I know every property the
family owns after three years. You’re probably
misremembering something the old man
messed up, or a business that closed down.”
Chad seemed satisfied and dropped the
subject.
As they got into the car. Lucy hesitated again.
<
Chad stopped with the keys halfway to the
ignition, turning to give her a sharp look.
TL
“That’s right. Why would I? Lucy, you’ve been
acting weird ever since we left him. Don’t tell
me you caught feelings for him?”
Lucy waved her hands, shaking her head.
“What? That’s crazy! I’ve been in love with
you all these years! Why else would I have
done all this?”
Chad seemed satisfied, starting the car.
That evening, Lucy brought home all of
Mikey’s favorite takeout food. A part of her
felt guilty, but there was nothing she could
- do.
Chad was the man she loved.
r
When she stood in front of his apartment, she
realized she didn’t have a key.
Right, this wasn’t their fancy downtown
condo anymore. After their fight, Mikey hadn’t
given her a key.
“…Mikey? You home? Can you open the
door?”
She knocked gently, surprised no one
answered.
A chilling thought struck her.
Mikey couldn’t get around very well, and he
was now broke. What if he’d done something
stupid?
く
Suddenly terrified, she called a locksmith
from a sign on the door and had him pick the
lock.
“Mikey!”
She burst inside to find the apartment empty.
It didn’t even look like anyone lived there. The
boxes Mikey had moved were gone.
“Mikey! Where are you?!”
Lucy, with a hint of desperation, searched
every room.
Finally, she saw a divorce agreement and a
wedding ring on the table.
“…You want a divorce?!”
It felt like a knife to the heart. A cold, bitter
wind blew in, forcing her to confront her
feelings.
Tears blurred her vision.
Why was she crying over Mikey? She wasn’t…
she never loved him, right?
Lucy cried silently, trying to convince herself
divorce was for the best, just a temporary
adjustment.
She’d be free to be with Chad! She should be
happy!
But she didn’t notice something was off.
<
The next day, she was off her game around
Chad.
“…Lucy? Why are you spacing out?”
She brushed off Chad’s concern, saying she
felt sick.
That day, they finally found the company.
Chad was looking for.
Standing in front of the enormous office
building, Chad was thrilled.
He strutted past the front desk and barged
into the CEO’s office, ready to take over.
“Sorry! The old man is gone! I’m taking over
this company!”
<
But when he saw who was sitting in the
CEO’s chair, he paled.
“Mikey?! What are you doing here?!”
Chapter 6
It’d been a while since I saw those two.
Seeing them barge into my office with such
entitlement made me frown.
“I’m the CEO. Why wouldn’t I be here?”
I leaned back in my leather chair, my
expression cold.
Chad didn’t believe it. “…That’s impossible!
You’re going against the old man’s will?!”
Lucy, clearly surprised to see me here,
く
frowned and said, “Mikey, stop it. Don’t
embarrass Chad. Respect the old man’s will.
Besides, I’m a lawyer. You can’t just take this
business.”
I shrugged, looking at them carefully.
“Will? What a joke! Do you know why this
business isn’t on the old man’s will?”
Chad scoffed. “The old man messed up! He
was getting old. He forgot something, big
deal!”
Lucy chimed in, “Yeah, that’s gotta be it,
otherwise…”
I cut her off. “Otherwise, it doesn’t make
sense? A business this big, not specifically
listed in the will.”
r
Chad still didn’t get it. I stood up, leaning on
the table to get closer to them. “Because the
old man transferred this business to me a
long time ago! The will was for the smaller
stuff! He just helped me manage this, and
made some retirement money! That’s why it’s
not on the will!”
“…What?! No way!”
Lucy gasped, her face losing color.
I clapped my hands, calling in the company’s
legal team.
They brought out the contracts and videos,
everything with legal proof showing the
transfer of assets.

Lucy and Chad stumbled forward, looking at
the evidence.
The old man knew Chad was greedy and
useless. He transferred all the important
businesses to me when he was still in shape
to do it.
I turned to Lucy, “Lucy, you’re a lawyer.
Taking this is a bad idea.”
Chad looked at Lucy, who nodded slowly.
“Yeah, this is your property. It has nothing to
do with the old man.”
“…Are you screwing with me?!”
Chad grabbed my shirt. I punched him in the

As Lucy screamed, I pinned Chad to the
ground and started punching him, yelling,
“Who’s screwing who?! My grandfather was
good to you, and this is how you repay him?!
Chad, you don’t deserve the name! Who do
you think you are?! I gave you too much
credit!”
“Stop! Stop!”
Lucy cried, trying to pull me off. Chad
struggled to get up, but my bodyguards.
arrived.
“You’ll pay for this!”
With the bodyguards watching, Chad spat
blood and left.
<
Looking at Lucy holding my arm, I yanked
away and said, “You get out, Lucy. I don’t
want to see you!”
