After chemistry class, I went to put my book away in my locker and also to get my English book. When I closed my locker, I saw ocean blue eyes looking down at me. My heart skipped a bit, and 1 jumped because I didn’t notice someone standing beside me. I knew who he was since I had seen. him with a lot of cheerleaders, and he was also a part of Hayden’s team, but I never really paid attention to him. He was tall, slim, and good- looking, but he had nothing on Hayden.
Okay, where did that just come from!
“Hi” He snapped me out of my thoughts and stared at me expectantly, wanting to know the reason why he was here.
“Hi” 1 muttered out, unsure.
“Um, you are Bree right. He asked, pointing a questionable finger at me.

I turned back to see if anyone was behind me, but was welcomed with an empty hall. Trying not to make a big deal out of it, I decided to shrug it off and walk off to my next class.
1 jogged down the corridor to my English class, as I was once again late because of Jason. I pushed the door open and breathed a sigh of relief when our teacher wasn’t here yer. I quickly took a seat close to Soße: Maddie had biology now, so we were not in the same class.
“Where did you go?” Sofie questioned.
“I had to drop my chemistry notes in my locker and also take my English notes.
“But that took a lot of time; it’s a good thing Mr. Mason isn’t here yet,
“Yeah, something weird happened. I will tell you and Maddie about it later 1 said this as our English teacher stepped into the classroom.
“Alright, settle down. Mr. Mason clapped his hands together to get our attention. Since this is your last year in high school, we are going to spice things up. This year we are working on a project, a book project, with two partners, since there are twenty–six of you attending this class.”
Immediately, the class started talking about who they would pair up with Sofie and I smiled at each other. There was no need for us to look for partners when we had each other.
“Quiet down now, class; you don’t need to bother choosing your partners because I will be the one in charge. Mr. Mason spoke up
And in response, he got a groan from the class. This man just knew how to ruin students‘ plans, I really don’t like him. “You will all be doing a presentation on an assigned book given to each of you. You have a lot of time since you will be presenting it at the end of the school year. This will be equal to your final grade, so make sure to put in a lot of effort if you want a great score.”
We groaned again, louder than before.
If it was equal to our final grades, that means 50%. What the hell was the guy drinking?
“I will be assigning you. .” He was interrupted by the sound of the classroom door opening. Hayden walked in along with the remaining members of his crew, Dylan and Daniel. Since they take the class at the same time as we do, “Nice of you to join us, Mr. King,” Mr. Mason said with no hint of emotion on his face.
“Sure, whatever. Hayden replied with an equally stony face as he walked to the classroom to take a seat behind me.

The class quieted down and paid attention to Mr. Mason, “Canter and Ashley

Sophie’s jaw dropped to the ground, and she sent a glare in my direction Most students would be intimidated by her, but not me. I don’t give two sh*t about who her dad was or if she was the queen bee of the school. I rolled my eyes at her.

“Ugh. Kill me.” I sighed.
“It’s not that bad; I am sure you guys can work something out.”
I bang my head on the table, not even making any attempt to talk to or acknowledge Hayden, and it was the same for him. I could hear the sound of his keypad as he typed furiously on his phone. I don’t even think he was paying attention to anything that was being said.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when Mr. Mason speaks. “Now I will be handing out the book you will be presenting. Keep in mind that each group has a different book, and you will be graded according to how well you perform. Do not for a second think of switching books with one another, I would know, since it has already been recorded”
The class groaned again for the time. I blacked out when Mr. Mason started calling the names of books for each group. It was only when I felt a light push from Sofie that I snapped our of my thoughts.
“Bree and Hayden, you have Romeo and Juliet,”
I haven’t even started the book yet, and I already feel my head about to burst. Hayden didn’t react, there were no sneaky remarks or comments. Nothing at all; it was as if his mind wasn’t even here.
Mr. Mason continued giving out
the
names of books in the midst of student groans; it was like he wasn’t affected. After he was dope calling the names of the books, he was kind enough. Not. To pass the books to each person, as he handed out the last book, the sound of the bell was heard, putting an end to today’s learning
All the students parked their bags like they were in a hurry and rushed out of the classroom along with their assigned partners. I still sat on the chair with Sofie and Ashely, but we weren’t the only ones, Hayden still sat rooted in his seat with biphone in his arms.
What was so important that he didn’t care what happened around him!
I didn’t bother getting up to follow him when he walked out of the classroom, even when Sofie nudged me to follow him. I saw no reason why I should, seeing as I was going to meet him in an hour. My phone pinged, and I brought it out to check my message box. It was a message from Hayden telling me to be at his place by live,

I quickly replied, “Whatever then threw my stuff into my bag and said goodbye to Sofie as she and Kelly talked about their work. I walked out of the school to where Maddie stood with Dylan. She was waiting around for Dylan since they had practice. We said our goodbyes and I promised to text her when I got home.

Chapter 16
I decided to walk home instead of getting on the school bus. I really need to pass my driver’s test this time. When I got home, I took a thirty–minute nap before showering and getting ready to go to Hayden’s place. I put on black shorts with a plain white shirt, a black bag, and sandals to match. I did a luule bit of makeup, checking the clock by the side of the bed stand, and it read 5:30 p.m. I sent a quick text to my mom, telling her I won’t be around when she arrives with a promise not to stay out late, then made my way down the stairs and out the door, making sure it was locked before walking in the direction of Hayden’s house.

“Come, let me show you to his room,” Ariel said again, stepping aside for me to get in. I was amazed by the structure of his house.
She directed me up the stairs to a hallway with two sides. We took the left side, which had only two doors Ariel knocked at the door, informing Hayden of my arrival, and when he gave his consent, she opened the door for me to step in
I slowly walked into the room, still shocked. When I got in the room. I took my time taking in view of the room, a reflection of him
My eyes later settled on Hayden, who lay on his bed, chest bare, as he stared at me with an amused look on his face. His hair was wet as it dripped water down his chest.
“I guess you are done checking me out,” he asked cockily.
“Yeah, Master Hayden” 1 retorted back at him, and he only laughed in response
“The rules of the house,” he replies, shrugging off his shoulders.
I opened my bag and took out a piece of paper on which I printed out the rules, before putting down my bag along with my phone on his desk, plopping down on the bed beside me, laying on my stomach.
I placed the paper in his lap, and he picked it up to go through the rules. I had only written five rules and left some space in case he wanted to add
“Such a nerd,” he snorted out.
“Yeah, if you have yours, you are free to add to it” I told him.
I had written five rules.
The first one was about keeping it a secret from our friends. I didn’t want them to know, and the second stated that we were not allowed to sleep with anyone anymore as long as we had whatever was going on.
The third and fourth ones were all apart from being there when we needed each other. In a sexual way only, we aren’t interfering in each other’s lives. The last one is that we can’t, under any circumstances, fall in love with each other.
I laid on his bed, waiting for his response until he finally spoke again. “I have no problems with the deal; I’m just going to add one more rule
Hayden says, standing up from the bed to take out a pen, “What is it”
