Chapter 34
As I sit in the front seat of Hayden’s car. I can’t wait to get home and lay in bed. It felt awkward being here: I kept fiddling and shifting. I am in my seat because my nerves are constantly working. I want to tell myself it has nothing to do with the green–eyed boy beside me. He has been on my mand for the last few hours, making me angsty
His confession last night caught me off guard, and 1 just stood there speechless, saying absolutely nothing. I knew he was hurt by my lack of response to his feelings, but I didn’t know what to do either.
Never in a million years did I ever think Hayden King would ever fall for me, his archenemy. Right now, things were a bit awkward between us not to talk about the questionable glance Sofie has been sending my way from the back seat of the car.
I moved my gaze from the window to the front and very carefully to my left. He was leaning back on his seat with his body fully relaxed. His eyes were focused on the road, but his jaws were clenched together. 1 kept subtly watching him until he blinked and locked his eyes on mine. The look he gave me was so captivating, and my mind suddenly went blank.
I hurried and turned my face to look out the window. The drive was silent, and the only sound that was heard was the soft music coming from the radio. I looked back to see Sofie and Oliver fast asleep, with Sofic’s head resting on Oliver’s shoulder, and a small smile lit up my face.
It took an hour till the car stopped, and I got down, giving a brief glance from Hayden. I opened the back door to wake Oliver and Sofie. They both got out of the car. Same with Dylan. Maddie, and Daniel.
“I can’t believe we have to resume school tomorrow” Maddie whined, her head resting on Dylan’s chest
“Me too. Let’s do this again.” Sofie said.
“See you in school tomorrow. Bree“. Maddie says, getting back to Dylan’s car, Sofie, Daniel, and Oliver waved at me before getting back into the car since I was the first person being dropped home. I looked at Hayden, who already had his eyes on me. He walked towards ine, swiftly pulling a piece of paper in my hand, then got into his car and drove off along with Dylan
If stood at my front porch, waving them off until their cars were out of sight. I walked to the front door, putting in my key and pushing it open. The house was empty. My mom had already texted me, telling me that she and my dad were taking Asher out to Aunt Vicki’s house for a family game night and wouldn’t be back until later in the evening.
I carried my bag up to my room with the piece of paper in my hand. I walked into my room, throwing my bag on the floor, and the paper that Hayden gave me was placed on the bed. I walked into my bathroom to freshen up, changing into comfortable pyjamas before laying myself down on the bed
I took the paper, slowly opening it. He had beautiful handwriting that was the first thing I noticed. I scanned through the words written in bold

1 huffed, letting out a sigh. I also need to figure out the way I feel about him. I know I feel something for him, but I’m not sure yet. Ieir love or just plain old lust?

I turned to the other side, trying to fall asleep again, but failed when 1 heard my mom’s volice.
“Gabriela Maria Adams. I hope that sound wasn’t your alarm clock. I could hear my mom scream from downstairs

I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes with my palms, and picked up my phone beside me to look at the time. I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom to take a shower. I wasted no time there and dressed up for school.
I wore a knee–length blue dress with a black booth that was up to my kneecaps before making my way downstairs, where I met my parents and Asher sitting on the dining table as they ate their breakfast,

“Have some omelette before going to school. I placed a plate of omelettes and bacon at my from with a glance of orange juice.
Llooked at Asher, wondering why he hadn’t said anything. Only to find him looking so adorable with his eyes dripping close, half asleep while eating his breakfast.

“It was okay; we had a lot of fun.” I say to her, parting another spoon of omelette in my mouth.

“You don’t have to. I want to walk to school today.” It will help clear mind.
“Are you sure?” I nodded my head.
I stood up when I was done with breakfast, kissing my mom, dad, and Asher on the check, making my way to the door. I started to walk to school.
When I arrived, I went straight to my locker. Taking out the books I need for my classes before lunch break When I felt a presence behind me. I turned around, letting out a gasp when I saw Hayden standing a few feet apart, staring down at me.
“Oh my God! Hayden. You almost gave me a heart attack..” I said, trying to control the way my heart kept beating fast, I don’t know if it’s from being frightened or him being close to me.
He didn’t say anything and just handed me what looked like a lunch box. I looked at it warily, slowly opening it, and saw a sandwich with sausages and a little bit of fries. I looked at him, confused, waiting for him to speak.
I know how much you hate the cafeteria food, so I made you this instead” He said it softly to me.
He made this… colour me surprised, and at the same time I had this warm feeling settling at the pit of my stomach.

“We have a game on Friday, I want you to wear this. He handed me his jersey with his none and number on it. “You wearing it means you feel the same about me. If you choose not to wear it, I will accept and try to move on. I won’t ever bother you about it again”
He didn’t wait for my reply and left, leaving me standing alone in the hallway. I look down at the jersey and lunch box in my hands, punting the clothes in my schoolbag and the lunch box in my locker before closing it off.
The bell rang, indicating the beginning of the first class of the day. I hurriedly made my way to class.
Time moved by, and it was finally lunch. Maddie and Sade were beside me, with Maddie braming with joy as we made our way into the cafeteria ! put the lunch box in my bag, which I was carrying right now, and made my way to our table.
“Aren’t you getting lunch before going to the table?” Sofie asked curiously,

Sobe kooked utterly confused as she replied to him. “But you showed us yesterday, and we spent the whole weekend together.”

Anyway, Dylan sat close to Maddie, Oliver took a seat beside Sole, and Hayden sat opposite Daniel but in front of me. He had a smile on his face when he saw that the lunch box he gave me had already been eaten hallway.
The crew chatted amongst themselves while I kept quiet, keeping my focus solely on the food in front of me as I Tappily devoured it. It went silent for some time until Maddie broke it off, directing a question to me.
“So, Bree. I know no one wants to ask, and Hayden won’t say anything. But what happened at the party? She asked, and others, apart from Hayden and Oliver, stared expectantly at me.
“Oh, it’s nothing Hayden just helped me out when a boy tried to forcefully have his way with me and then started talking crudely about me replied with a shrug.

We all laughed and continued with our lunch. We got up and threw the trash in the dirt bin when the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch. We told the boys to go ahead while Maddie and Sofie escorted me back to my locker so that I could drop my bag and take out the books I needed for the rest of the period.
“Don’t you think something is wrong?” Maddie asked out of the blue, and Sofie quipped an eyebrow at her while I gave her a puzzled look. I wondered what she was talking about..
“I mean, come on, you guys should have noticed it too” She says it again.
“Noticed what?” Sofie finally asked as I closed my locker and we made our way to our next class.
“I haven’t seen Hayden with a girl for months now? She says her face screwed up like she was thinking about something
