Chapter 6
Harper had just managed to save her pregnancy after a car accident. Now, in her state of shock, she quickly started spotting.
Zake urgently contacted the ambulance and took her away.
Only after the sound of the ambulance sirens faded did Mason, who had been sitting frozen on the sofa, seem to wake up from his daze and mutter, “Clean up the floor, or Charlotte will feel disgusted.”
Zake didn’t dare to say more. He finished cleaning in silence and left the villa immediately.
The sky was getting darkened.
Mason sat on the sofa, his joints stiff.
He seemed to have become a statue.
He thought back to the time when, in order to comfort Charlotte, he casually handed her a key to one of his properties in the city.
After being exposed by paparazzi fans, she was shaken. It was the first time she cried and sought him out.
At that time, he was in the process of asking around about Harper’s recent situation and found her annoying.

He almost carelessly brought her to this isolated villa.
But that day, things changed.
She was wearing the dress she had just worn to an event, with an unrestrained smile, strolling across the yard.
As she opened the large glass door in the yard, the delicate bracelets on her slender wrist made a faint clinking sound.
That was the first time he felt his heart skip a beat.
And in that moment, that fleeting heartbeat, he easily gave in to Charlotte’s suggestion, choosing this remote, empty villa as their home.
“Mason, I really love this sunlight! Will this be our future home?
“I want to add a swing here. And over there, we can have coffee…”
As she chattered, the villa, which had once felt empty and lifeless, suddenly became warm.

Later, Charlotte really turned this place into their home, step by step.
Thinking of this, Mason gritted his teeth.
For the first time, his gaze fell upon the stairs.
Until now, he still didn’t dare to go upstairs.
Chapter 6
He didn’t know how to face the upstairs where there was no longer the sound of a child crying.
He couldn’t even bear to imagine the empty wardrobe and playroom upstairs.
This late–blooming fear made him feel intense regret.
Suddenly, he slammed his fist into the glass coffee table in a burst of frustration.
The transparent glass shattered with a sound, and blood splattered.

Amid the mess, Mason gasped and muttered softly, “I shouldn’t have kept entangling with Harper.
“I was just… too stubborn…”
His mind was filled with the image of Harper, who had resolutely left him when they were young.
The long–standing sense of injustice had almost become an obsession, leaving him with only the thought of seeking revenge out of stubbornness.
He resorted to any means to try and use emotions as a form of retaliation, yet he had never once thought to ask Charlotte whether she was willing.
After all, he had already thrown so many resources at her. What

could she possibly be dissatisfied with?

He had completely forgotten to look back at his heart to see what it was that he truly wanted.
Suddenly, the phone rang in the pitch–dark villa.
Mason silently stared at the phone screen for a long time. Just as the call was about to end, he finally answered.
“Mr. Whitmore, we’ve found your wife’s flight records. She boarded the plane the day she announced her retirement, and within the next 30 hours, she made three layovers. Her final
destination is in Acria.”
The moment he heard this, a flicker of joy appeared in his eyes.
Without hesitation, he stood up and walked toward the door.
“I want her exact address before I land in Acria.”
As he spoke, his movements halted for a moment, remembering that his travel documents were still upstairs.
This time, he walked up the stairs without hesitation.
