Chapter 7
Two months passed, and winter arrived early in Acria.
To my surprise, Anna adapted quite well.
She had never seen snow before. The first time she saw the thick
snowflakes falling in the courtyard, she was so excited that she refused to sleep.
I sat nearby, drinking hot coffee, feeling relaxed.
As a trained actress, I admittedly lacked practical skills outside of acting.
Fortunately, over the years, I had earned enough from my roles, and it just so happened that I could spend more time with Anna while she was still young.
While I was thinking this, I suddenly heard a knock at the door.
Without any suspicion, I opened the door.
But amidst the falling snow, standing in front of me was not a local.
It was none other than the beaming Mason,
In an instant, my expression darkened, and I was about to slam the
door shut.

But Mason’s hand, frozen and red from the cold, blocked it firmly in place.
“Charlotte, let’s talk.”
I frowned, “I have nothing to talk to you about.”
“What do you mean? We have a lot to talk about!”
Outside, the wind howled, and the biting cold mixed with snowflakes blew into the room.
It made Anna, who was by the window watching the snow, sneeze repeatedly.
“Anna is going to catch a cold…” Mason whispered.
But I wasn’t moved.
“Then you better get out now!
“If you hadn’t knocked on this door, Anna wouldn’t have been freezing.”
Mason looked at me, who was extremely firm. After a few seconds of silence, he withdrew his hand.
“Charlotte, I haven’t signed the divorce agreement yet. But… even if I sign it, as long as you haven’t returned to the country to go through the divorce procedures, I’m still your husband.

“You’ll have to talk to me.”
I lowered my gaze, remained silent for a while, then turned and placed Anna on her crawling mat. I deliberately turned on the animated storybook for her.
When I returned to the living room, Mason was already standing by the sofa, giving me an apologetic smile.
“Charlotte, I can explain what happened that day at the hospital…”
I interrupted him without any hesitation, “No need to bring up the hospital. After five years of marriage, you should know that I’m not the type to get divorced over trivial matters.”
“I know.” Hearing my words, he smiled faintly.
“Before I came, I went upstairs. When I saw Anna’s room and your walk–in closet, I knew that you still had feelings for me.”
I stared at him, and for the first time, I found him utterly ridiculous, almost absurd.
He didn’t mention the divorce agreement or the wedding ring, both of which were clearly placed on the table.
Yet, he had the nerve to interpret my firm departure as lingering affection for him.
“I didn’t take anything because I was disgusted by those things,” I said coldly.

“Anna likes new toys and new clothes. What’s the value in taking the garbage left behind in that house?”
When I said the word “house,” there was a sudden shift in Mason’s
eyes.
He stared at me intensely, the dim light around us almost swallowed by his gaze.
“Charlotte, what do you mean by ‘house‘? You clearly said before. That’s our home.”
“Home?” I relaxed on the couch, a mocking smile creeping across my
face.
“Did we ever have a home?”
I held his gaze without flinching, completely giving up on any
pretense.
There was no trace of hiding left in me.
“Mason, a home is built with the person you love. You’ve been pining over Harper for five years. I thought by now you’d be rushing to plan a grand wedding, announcing to the whole world that you’ve finally won your beauty!
“It would save the dignified CEO from having to drag his first love to the side of the arch bridge to stage a show. It’s hard not to feel a sense of frustration when watching.”

Finally, his expression changed.
Almost visibly, the color drained from his face, and the gloom that had once clouded his eyes was swiftly replaced with panic.
I waited patiently for a few seconds, and when I saw that he had no intention of defending himself, I stood up with satisfaction.

“Go back, Mason. I have no interest in your act of turning over a new leaf.”
Anna had been alone in the small living room for five minutes already, and I no longer had the patience to waste any more time with this man.
But just as I was about to push open the glass door of the partition, a cold hand tightly grasped my wrist.
“Charlotte, I admit that in the beginning, I truly had impure
intentions.
“But after five years of marriage, don’t you care about any of it?
“I promise you, it’s only an act of revenge on Harper! I never thought of replacing her with you.
“In my heart, the villa has always been our home. It’s the only home I have!”
I turned my head, my face cold.
“What does your home have to do with me? You destroyed your
Chapter 7 own home.”

After saying that, I didn’t give him another glance and picked up a slightly sleepy Anna.
I didn’t even notice that the man behind me was completely drained of color, his face ashen.
Just as I was about to head upstairs, I suddenly heard him murmur in a low voice, “Charlotte, I’m sorry.
“I was out of my mind back then. But you’ve always been by my side. I…
“I thought you would never leave me.
“I’m sorry. I really know I was wrong…”
He was silent for a long while, and when he raised his eyes again, they were already red–rimmed.
“If you return to the country, could I come see you and Anna?”
I didn’t turn back, taking Anna upstairs.
By the time I came downstairs the next morning, Mason had
left.
On the table, there were only two documents.
One was the divorce agreement that he had signed, and the other was the transfer deed I had signed on Anna’s first

birthday, which included company shares and various high–quality assets.
I found it somewhat amusing.
Perhaps in the past two months, Mason had carried some lingering, unspoken unease in his heart.

That was probably why, before crossing the sea to come to Acria,
he inexplicably brought these two documents along.
However, those things no longer mattered to me.
After all, we no longer had any connection.
Lost in thought, I heard Anna crawling down the stairs behind
- me.
Just as I was about to turn around to check, I vaguely heard her giggling and mumbling, “Mommy…”
Outside the window, the sun was bright, and the snow was
melting.
