Chapter 4

I was all by myself in the elevator, feeling lost.
Ever since my parents split up, my dad married into the Parker family. He moved in with my sister Rachel and became their live–in son–in–law.
I had never met Rachel before, as far as I could remember.
Then, five years ago, she suddenly approached me.
“I’ll give you half a million dollars. Pretend to be me and help me take care of someone.”
At that time, my mom had just passed away from an illness, and my family was drowning in debt. I had no other choice but to
agree.
When we finally met, I learned that the person she wanted me to take care of was Adrian, the son of the Sinclair family.
He was also her fiancé, but had an accident soon after they got engaged.
“He’s blind and his family abandoned him. Why should I look after him?” Rachel looked disgusted. “If it weren’t for my reputation, I would have dumped him ages ago.”
Back then, Rachel had just started her acting career.
She scored a great role and her fame was skyrocketing.

Adrian had lived a life of luxury for eighteen years and then suddenly faced a complete reversal of fortune.
It made him bitter and unpredictable during that time.
In the beginning, he would constantly mock me as I took care of him. But I never argued back since I was getting paid for it.
One day, I went to visit my mom’s grave and ended up coming
back a little late.
He started venting his anger again.
“Rachel, stop pretending in front of me! I know you’re sick of me deep down and you’re just afraid of what others will say…”
Before he could finish his words, I leaned in and kissed him.
It was actually my first kiss and it was a bit clumsy. I was a little mad, so I accidentally bit his lip too hard.
Adrian suddenly fell silent.
Even his ears turned red.
“You!”
I bit his lip hard again.
Then, I took a step back, placed my hands on his shoulders, and took a deep breath. “Could you feel that? Do you still think I’m sick of you?”
