Chapter 9
In the next two weeks, Adrian came to me twice to go over some important decisions for the upcoming press conference. At the end, he remembered something and handed me a paper. “It’s about a huge tourism project that hasn’t been announced yet. We’ll be collaborating directly with the government. You can break the news at the press conference as an exclusive scoop.”
I paused for a moment, then took it and thanked him.
After hearing about it, Otis kept urging me. “I think Mr. Sinclair really likes you. Why don’t you tell him about Rachel causing trouble for you?”
I adjusted the hosting script and grinned. “No need.”
“Do you think he’ll blame his fiancée over some random reporter?”
On the day of the press conference, the venue was packed with people.
The seat in the middle, where Adrian was supposed to sit, was empty.
In front of countless cameras, I began announcing some important collaborations of the Sinclair Group..
Suddenly, a stranger stood up and loudly accused me. “Where did you steal this top–secret information from?”
I replied seriously, “My collaboration with the Sinclair Group is completely transparent and aboveboard.”
Chapter 9
“Transparent? That’s rubbish. I bet you only know how to please
men.”
He shouted, “I have evidence!”
Someone approached the stage.
It was Rachel.
She stared at me and sighed. “Hazel, it’s normal for you to be attracted to Adrian.”
“I didn’t want to embarrass you before, but you’ve gone too far.”
The big screen behind me abruptly switched from PowerPoint to several explicit photos of me..
“You sent him these photos and showed up at his hotel door in the middle of the night wearing a revealing top. There’s even footage of you and your boss going to a hotel.”
As she spoke, the big screen began playing a clip.
In the dimly lit hotel entrance, my boss and I walked in together.
“It seems this isn’t your first time…”
The crowd erupted in commotion, and the main hall doors swung
open.
Adrian, dressed in a sharp suit and leather shoes, strode in, scanning the audience with piercing eyes.
Chapter 2
He glanced at me briefly but didn’t pause.
My heart sank.
The spotlight on the stage made it feel like I was about to be executed
in front of everyone.
People in the audience started whispering.
“She’s such an embarrassment to our reporters.”
“This is disgusting. She’s repulsive.”
“She has no professionalism. She should never be a reporter!”
I stared at Adrian, blocking out everyone else.
He looked at Rachel and asked..“What did you just say?”
Rachel’s eyes turned red, tears welling up. “Adrian, she deceived you.”
“She pretended to be a reporter and got close to you to steal confidential information. It’s harmful to the Sinclair Group.”
“She even used this opportunity to host the event by sleeping with someone!”
Adrian fell silent, his gaze shifting to me. “Do you have anything to say?”
