Chapter 15
Since Zachary’s death, Robert had practically been living at the
company.
He rarely returned to Ashford Manor. Every time he went back, painful memories would resurface.
He didn’t dare relax for a moment because as soon as he stopped working, he would fall into endless longing.
Robert had elevated the Ashford Group to new heights in a short period, but at the cost of his health.
Six months later, he was completely haggard.
One morning, right after finishing an early meeting with the company executives, Robert collapsed in the conference room.
When he regained consciousness two days later, he realized he had experienced a long dream while lying in the hospital bed.
In his dream, he saw Lena confessing her feelings to him on her eighteenth birthday, and he accepted without hesitation.
She jumped up and spun around with joy before falling into his embrace.
He held her tightly in his arms and kissed her passionately.

Suddenly, a face appeared before his eyes, forcibly separating them.
It was Colette!

Robert woke up terrified. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Gideon looking at him with swollen, grief–stricken eyes.
“Robert, you’re finally awake! How could you let yourself get like this?”
Robert, still not fully recovered from his nightmare, was thrust back into reality.
“Gideon, why are you back? This is just my old problem, don’t worry.”
Of course Gideon was worried about him. He had rushed over after hearing about Robert’s collapse, but never expected that in just six months, Robert would become so thin.
During these six months, Gideon had been busy with art exhibitions out of town. He had heard from the butler that Robert was pouring himself into company development after Zachary’s death, which had initially made him feel relieved for Zachary’s sake.
If he had known it would lead to this outcome, he would never have left Robert unattended.
He never imagined Robert loved Lena so deeply.

Robert couldn’t go against Zachary’s dying with, on the crabbest seek out the woman he loved,
Caught in this dilemma, he could only work himself to exhaustion to forget the pain.
As a result, in just six months, his health had deterioraters completely,
The doctor said Robert had late–stage stomach cancer, with cancer cells already spread throughout his body, making treatment largely futile,
Gideon thought, “Late–stage stomach cancer! How much pain must he be in!
Yet he endured it silently until he collapsed.”
He couldn’t give up on his only brother. With no treatment options available domestically, he decided to take him abroad for treatment.
Then, Gideon thought of someone.
“Robert, do you still want to find Lena?”
Gideon knew Lena was Robert’s obsession. Perhaps with her by his side, he would have the will to live.
On the hospital bed, Robert first looked excited, but quickly deflated.

He had promised Zachary to look after the company and not to seek out Lena.
Zachary had fallen ill because of all the troubles he had caused. He needed to honor Zachary’s last wish, or he would never find
peace.
But Robert truly wanted to find Lena; he missed her terribly.
Gideon saw his hesitation and said with feigned casualness, “Robert, the company is very strong now. Even if you leave for a year, there won’t be any problems! Let me take you to find Lena!
We can go to the country where she is for your treatment. If she knows you’re sick, she’ll definitely come running to see you. You’ll have a chance to reconcile.”
This was the best solution Gideon could think of. He concealed Robert’s true condition and decided to take him abroad for
treatment.
He knew that only by using Lena as an excuse would Robert willingly go abroad.
Robert was convinced. He felt somewhat fortunate that his sudden illness had given him a reason to search for her.
He understood his own condition. If it wasn’t serious, Gideon wouldn’t have suggested treatment abroad.
However, this actually aligned perfectly with Robert’s wishes.

He finally had a chance to win Lena back.
