Lena asked Jane to drive her somewhere before heading to the airport.
Only when the plane took off did she realize she had truly escaped her previous miserable fate.
Upon arriving in France, Lena immediately took care of all her advanced study arrangements and immersed herself in her busy academic life.
The professors at this university were known for their strictness, so she didn’t dare slack off even slightly.
Meanwhile, Robert had also returned to the country. He was delayed while taking Colette home.
During their vacation abroad, her condition had improved, but she relapsed on the way back.
She cried bitterly.
“Robert, are you really going to marry her? Even though I know you have no choice, I’m still heartbroken. I can’t accept that the man I love most is about to marry someone else. I’m so devastated I could die!”
In the past, Robert would become extremely anxious whenever Colette had a depressive episode.

But this time, he felt somewhat impatient. Nevertheless, he patiently comforted her.

Robert took out his phone intending to call Lena, to tell her to wait a little longer as he would be back soon.
But when he saw dozens of missed calls and an email from an unknown sender, he felt irritated and put his phone away.
“Colette, be good and stay at home. I’ll come keep you company later, okay?
The wedding is about to start. Lena is waiting for me to pick her up at Ashford Manor!”
Thinking of Lena, who had grown increasingly quiet lately, Robert felt an inexplicable panic.
He had promised to pick her up early today, and he couldn’t delay any longer.
He shook off Colette, who was clinging to him tightly, and turned to leave.
“Robert, don’t go! I feel terrible. She killed my dog. Now she’s taking you away too. I have nothing left. What’s the point of living anymore?”
Colette cried until her eyes were red and swollen, holding onto Robert and refusing to let go.

He desperately wanted to leave, but he feared she might do something drastic. With no other choice, he stayed to comfort her, planning to leave once her emotions stabilized.
Colette couldn’t stop crying at the mention of her therapy dog, recounting memories about it.
“Robert, do you remember how much my dog liked you when it first met you? It was so smart. It immediately knew you were the one I loved, which is why it was so affectionate toward you!”
Realizing he couldn’t leave anytime soon, Robert grew anxious.
He immediately contacted Ethan to buy a dog and have it delivered. He sent over photos of Colette’s dog, asking Ethan to find one exactly like it.
After the dog arrived, Colette finally allowed Robert to leave.
By the time he rushed back to Ashford Manor, the wedding was about to begin.
But he wasn’t worried about missing it at all, because he was certain Lena would be waiting for him.
The manor had been meticulously decorated. Robert, already dressed in his groom’s attire, solemnly walked to Lena’s door.
“Lena, I’m here to marry you. Open the door.”
Robert’s voice trembled slightly. He was a bit nervous.

There was no response from inside. He called out again, “Lena, it’s time. We need to head to the wedding venue!”
He adjusted the collar of his suit, waiting for Lena to emerge in her wedding dress.
But there was still no response from inside.
Robert glanced at his watch and realized they were running out of time to reach the venue.
“Lena, I’m coming in.”
He pushed open the door, only to find the room empty. Lena wasn’t there at all.
Robert was instantly shocked, with a vague sense of foreboding.
He felt a sudden emptiness inside, as if something important had been lost.
He rushed out of the room, searching for Lena throughout the
manor.
People were everywhere, but Lena was nowhere to be found.
“Lena, today is our wedding day. Stop playing hide and seek with me.”
Robert found the butler and sternly questioned him about why Lena wasn’t in her room.

The butler turned pale with fear. “How is that possible? Miss Moreau has been waiting in her room for you since early morning!

Besides, today is your wedding day. Where could Miss Moreau possibly go?”
Robert thought, “Yes, today is our wedding day. She’s been looking forward to this day for so long. How could she not wait for me?”
However, he felt increasingly uneasy.
Ten minutes later, the people he sent to search the entire manor couldn’t find Lena anywhere.
The butler retrieved the security footage, which showed her leaving through the back door early in the morning, dressed in servant’s clothes.
Robert was thunderstruck, nearly losing his balance.
But soon he thought of a place and drove there immediately…
