Chapter 5
Robert tried to ease the pain in his heart with deep breaths. It took him a moment to regain his composure.
He asked weakly, “What else did she say?”
The servant thought for a moment before answering, “Ms. Moreau said she won’t be coming back to live here anymore, so there’s no need to keep the room for her.”
Robert thought to himself, “No need to keep her room? Is she really planning never to return?”
He rubbed his aching temples and waved for the servant to leave. He couldn’t imagine where Lena might have gone.
He had brought her to the Ashford family when she was seven, and she had cut off all contact with her relatives long ago.
She had few friends, and they were all still students who couldn’t possibly take her in.
After much consideration, Robert finally called Lena’s mentor.
“Hello, Ms. Murphy, I’m Lena’s… fiancé. Do you know where she
went?”
He had intended to say he was her guardian, but he no longer seemed to like that old identity.

He was indeed her fiancé now, and would be her husband in the future, the father of the child in her womb.
Jane chuckled softly. This morning she had only taken Lena to her parents‘ grave before driving away.
This was Lena’s request. She knew that after she left, the Ashford family would certainly contact Jane.
Jane had already helped her a lot, and she didn’t want to cause her any more trouble.
“Mr. Ashford, I only took her to pay respects to her parents this morning. After that, I drove away. I don’t know anything else.”
After hanging up, Robert finally realized that since Lena wanted to leave, she wouldn’t let anyone know her whereabouts.
He had never felt so panicked before. The Lena who had always clung to him had suddenly disappeared from his world.
Previously, Robert had felt that her love for him was too heavy, and he wanted to escape it.
But now, he realized she had never been his burden. Somehow, she had quietly occupied his heart, but he had realized it too late.
He clutched his chest as tears silently rolled down his face, sobbing as he called Lena’s name.

“Lena, Lena…
Suddenly, Robert stopped crying.

He remembered there was still an unread email on his phone: He instinctively felt this email was related to Lena.
As if finding hope, he took out his phone with trembling hands and opened his inbox.
Robert recalled that in the past, whenever Lena was upset with him, he could appease her by buying a small gift according to her wishes.
And she would convey clues about the gift to him in various
ways.
He thought, “It must be the same this time. The clue is in this email.”
Robert broke into a smile through his tears. He knew Lena couldn’t bear to be so cruel to him.
But when he opened the first image, he froze.
It was the surgery form he had seen that day.
He brought the phone closer to his eyes, carefully examining the words on it, confirming repeatedly.
He thought, “Didn’t Lena say it was just a simple dental procedure needed during early pregnancy? Why has it become

an abortion surgery? The patient’s name clearly shows Lena, and the age matches too.
Tears welled up in Robert’s eyes again. He thought, “She aborted the baby? How is that possible! That was our child! How could she bear to abort it?”
The subsequent images horrified Robert even more. Though those screenshots were Colette deliberately provoking Lena, they were still facts.
He had indeed done those things with Colette, and he had indeed indulged her.

So this was the real reason for Lena’s sudden change in behavior. Robert had only thought she had matured because of her pregnancy.
He never imagined that her coldness was because she had experienced one hurt after another.
He could no longer control his emotions, covering his face with both hands and sobbing loudly.
