Chapter 6
Amid hushed tones, I caught snippets of words like Vivian, trekking pole and where was it hidden. He was asking our daughter where the trekking pole was.
Unable to locate it, Simon lost his temper and knocked over items on his study desk, causing a loud clatter. I pretended not to hear and continued to sleep.
The next morning, the house was empty when I woke up. I turned off my alarm, got ready and headed to my best friend’s law firm.
“Adriana, it’s fantastic that you’ve decided to return to work!” Jemima, who had made a name for herself in the legal world after years of hard work, now owned her own firm:
She handed me a cup of coffee and said, “Adriana, if you hadn’t quit back then, who knows? Maybe we’d be running this firm

together now.”
Yes, I could’ve been a senior partner by now. But instead of lamenting the past, I focused on reintegrating into society and immersing myself in work.
When I got home, Simon called, “Adriana, where have you been?”
I said, “I’m working overtime.”
He asked, “Overtime? What overtime? You don’t even have a job.”
“I found one,” I replied.
He let out a scoff, tinged with disbelief and disdain, “You find a job? Adriana, after all these years out of work, what company would hire you? Do you really think you can compete with younger people?”
“Just quit. Come home and I’ll take care of you.” Every word he said irritated me.
It was true, if it weren’t for Jemima’s help, finding a job would’ve been difficult.

Chapter 6
I once thought I was living a dream life, a successful husband, a well–behaved daughter and a seemingly perfect family. Now, it all felt like a joke. Years of my life, was a joke.
I hung up on him without a word. I needed to focus on familiarizing myself with my work, I couldn’t waste any more time.
But Simon kept calling. Annoyed, I turned off my phone.
Just as I reopened a document on my computer, the office door swung open and someone said, “Hey, Adriana.”
I looked up. It was Kourtney.

She walked straight in and sat across from my desk, “What? Surprised to see me? Why wouldn’t I come to find you?”
I chuckled, “Of course, you can. I’ve seen plenty of TV dramas where mistresses confront the legal wife. Your attitude isn’t
all that different.”

Her smile disappeared in an instant, “Adriana, don’t slander me! I’m not a
mistress!”
I curled my lips into a faint smile but didn’t respond.
Her expression faltered when she said, “Adriana, don’t you get it? The one who’s unloved is the real third party. Simon hasn’t loved you for a long time, you know that. Between him and me, you’re the outsider.”
I replied coldly, “I have a marriage certificate with Simon. As long as that’s in effect, you’ll always be the mistress.”
Her fists clenched, “Adriana, don’t push your luck!”
I shrugged, “And if I do?”
Suddenly, she smirked, her smile chilling, “Well, I didn’t come here unprepared.”
With that, she abruptly stood up and raised her voice, “Ms. Adriana, I really didn’t mean to! Nothing ever happened between

me and Mr. Webster. Please don’t be angry, okay?”
Her voice was loud enough to catch the attention of everyone outside, drawing their curious gazes toward us.
Kourtney glanced sideways, noting the onlookers. She began playing her part even more convincingly, looking pitiful as she bent slightly and clutched my hand, “Ms. Adriana, I only want to do my job. I’m Mr. Webster’s secretary, staying late to work overtime with him is completely normal, isn’t it?”
