Chapter 7
“Please don’t make Mr. Webster fire me! It’s just me and my grandmother left at home, without this job, she’ll starve to death! Ms.. Adriana, you can hit me or scold me, I’ll even kneel for you today, okay?” With that, Kourtney dropped to her knees.
Her sobbing and pleading attracted a crowd of colleagues, all peering into my office.
Whispers started spreading, “What kind of person is this? She’s so heartless, someone’s kneeling and she still won’t let it go!”
“A secretary working late with her boss? That’s completely normal! What’s there to be jealous of?”
“She used to be a housewife, right? Housewives do nothing all day, no wonder she’s paranoid.”
Their murmurs turned into low chuckles

mocking my past as a homemaker. Frustrated, I called security to clear the
room.
Before the guards could even touch
Kourtney, she suddenly collapsed onto the floor. From the doorway, I heard a familiar voice, “Adriana, what did you do to Kourtney?”
I looked up. It was Simon.
He pushed past the crowd and stormed in, sweeping Kourtney into his arms,
“Kourtney, what’s wrong? Wake up! Please wake up!”
He glared at me, his eyes blazing with anger, “Adriana, what did you do to her? You know she’s not in good health, how could you make things difficult for her?”
“She works herself to exhaustion for the company! The company isn’t even hers, it’s ours! And yet, as the boss’s wife, you’re heartless enough to treat her like this?” After berating me, he carried Kourtney out

without another glance.
The murmurs resumed, but now they carried a tinge of disdain directed at me.
To them, I was just a spoiled ‘invisible rich. wife‘ married to a wealthy, handsome man. They couldn’t fathom why someone like me would bother working, calling me an embodiment of unnecessary suffering.
Luckily, Jemima returned just in time to scatter the onlookers. After learning what happened, she lashed out, “That shameless Kourtney! How dare she make a scene in my law firm? Adriana, don’t worry. You can’t keep letting them push you around.”
I nodded. “I won’t.”
Jemima dropped me off at home.
Simon didn’t return until dawn and the first
thing he said upon walking in was about Kourtney, “Kourtney’s awake now. Thankfully, she’s fine.”
I was sitting at the table, eating a sandwich

I had prepared for breakfast. Since I got out of the hospital, he had sent our daughter to stay with Kourtney and never brought her back.
I overheard their phone calls, our daughter seemed happy there and hadn’t once mentioned wanting to come home. If she didn’t want to come back, so be it. I had no intention of fighting for her anymore.
“It’s not my concern whether she’s okay or not,” I said flatly.
His face darkened and he threw his tie onto the floor, “Adriana, do you have any empathy? Kourtney’s condition, don’t you realize it’s because of you?”
I looked at him in disbelief, “Her kidney problems aren’t my fault.”
“Shut up!” He stormed over and knocked the sandwich out of my hands, “Unlike you, she doesn’t just lounge around at home all day. She stays up late working with me. Even if it’s not your fault, how can you be

so indifferent!”
His voice rose to a yell, “How can you still eat…” His tirade grated on my nerves.
Without thinking, I swept the entire breakfast spread off the table. The crash of glass breaking silenced him.
I stood up, “Simon, let’s get a divorce.”
He froze and stunned, “What? Adriana, what did you just say?”
“I said I want a divorce.” I turned and walked into the bedroom, grabbing the divorce agreement I had prepared earlier and throwing it at him.
